Hi.
I'm new to the Sunshine Coast and am wondering if lake wyeba is suitable for a flat water sail.
Would the current conditions be okay? what would be better?
Based at Buderim looking for some good locations.
Suggestions?
Cheers

Weyba is a bit shallow at the edges. Bit of a walk out but after that it is OK provided you dont have a big fin and or mind the walk out. At Webya Downs, follow Eumarella Rd to Webya Downs and right into down Charlotte Drive, turn right for 50 odd metres and the left until you get to the water.
Last year the water was high because of the rain we had and it was quite good.
Lake Catharaba (Boreen Point) is the choice of most windsurfers in the area, although it can get a bit choppy in a good wind.
Noosa river (Munna Point and 500m up and down stream) is great for flat water blasting in a good north easter but the runs are limited due to the width and it gets shallow nearer to the mouth (high tide is best). Being tidal it can be running fairly hard on a new moon or full moon.
I live at Noosaville and if you want to go to any of these places, you can PM me and we can meet up.
Hi Simon , Other option closer to you is Golden Beach at Caloundra. It's very tidal also and shorter runs than up at Lake Cootharaba which is probably the pick of flat water spots up the coast.
I'm away with work at the moment but same goes just PM if you want any more info. Will be back in Noosa in September very keen to hit the water. cheers Tim
You will probably find my detailed Weyba report in old forums.
Its a toss up between Weyba and Cootharaba for best Slalom on Suncoast in E-S-SE directions,
Weybe has very little swell so suits slalom better, Cootharaba can get some decent wind swell in the middle (on BIG Blows).
Weyba is close to town,(Noosa) long walk out to get to deep water, Take of once your feet are in Mud not sand!
In summer it can be a bacteria breeding ground if there has been no rain for ages and lots of hot weather, freezing cold in winter! And there are a few things that bite Toes in there!
Both in my opinion offer better sailing than Golden beach, GB issue is tide must be right otherwise its really dangerous with sandbanks everywhere, (S-SE) you get nice big long runs at the lakes ....I kick myself everytime I drive to GB beach (I get sucked in by the nice clean salt water, and grassed rigging area) GB you get 150m runs between sand banks....if only there was someway of marking the safe sailing channel at GB it would be the one of the best runs anywhere, soon as its cloudy and windy its dodgerama! Probably just depends on what end of the coast you want to end up at after your sail!
