Ok, so I went to Kirra and spent most of the day swallowing sea water. Where exactly is the gutter??? I was north of the swimming flags.
hi MrS,
what gear were you on? did you have the sonic slalom board? if you were i was speaking to you on the beach. i had the camera.
the gutter ran from just north of the flagged area towards gibson st, we are thinking next year of launching up around gibson st.
I had Neil Pryde grind 4.2 and a JP 78 wave (2000 model)
Blue sail.. My dad used my DR X Sail.. 5.3, what were u riding? black sail?
i remember seeing your dad i think.
i didn't hit the water, stayed on the beach and took photos.
when we first set up a couple of the experienced guys said that launching near the swimming flags was proving to be very difficult. they recommended the walk north to the gutter area (about 200m north of the flags) as it was easier to get out.
the gutter are started about 200m north of the flags and ran 4-500m north from that.
Unfortunately there really isn't a gutter any more Mr Spag except for the short one a little further north which you were sailing in, but as you probably found out it's very shallow. By the time you guys got there the waves were getting dumpy and it was more difficult to get out than it was earlier, so don't be too hard on yourself
A few months back there was a fanstastic gutter which ran for about 2km and was waist deep virtually all the way.
there is still the superbank further out that causes another kind of giant gutter but u need a very low tide for it to flatten out the water, and it was dead high tide when you were there
It seems to come and go and we need another big storm to repair it ![]()
Ah, thanks. Well, I'm pretty unfit. Was the first time in waves since 2001 or so! Glad to be back at least. Thanks for the info and advice.
