Hi all
Not too many details at this stage, but there may be a race being organised from Keppel Island to Yeppoon as part of Yeppoon's Pinefest.http://www.yeppoonpinefest.com.au/kite.htm
If I can get any more details I will post ASAP.
Yeah I don't think the organisers know the difference between a windsurfer and kitesurfer (both can enter I believe) Will go in it if there's a North Easter blowing otherwise it will be too down wind from GKI to Yeppoon if blowing a SE.
Geoff,
Sunday the 11th October, although PM me and I'll give you my mobile no. so you can check whether it will be worth your while travelling up (if it's blowing SE it will be directly downwind, so no good for us poleys)
Regards,
Brian
Sausage aka Hoops,
let me know when its on, pretty keen for a trip to right near your knife and fork!
We might need KW's cat as a support vessel.
Some more info at hand. Copy of an emailed reply from one of the organisers below:
"It will be on the weekend of the pinefest 10th to 11th October I’m just finishing the forms tonight and it should be on the web site very soon www.yeppoonpinefest.com.au Option A is $95.00 plus $65 for aksa membership inc Boat over on Saturday, accommodation Keppel haven, Dinner and Breakfast at the pizza shop Option B is $55 plus $65 aksa membership boat over Sunday that’s for kitesurfing it will be the same price for the windsurfers apart from the aksa membership its $60 for a sailing member at the sailing club or if they have a silver card. People need to have the experience to do this event its 18km down winder. The event will start about lunch time on Sunday the 11th depends on the winds."
I replied to his emai above:
"As a minimum for us Windsurfers we have to be a member of the Yeppoon Sailing Club? What about if we are a member of Windsurfing Queensland, Windwanderers or the Australian Wind Surfing Association?"
His reply was then:
"If people are already members of a sailing club and have silver card or are a member of any of the associations that’s fine as long as they have proof of membership for insurance reasons".
The link I posted at the beginning of this topic should have the entry form available at any time now.
G'day NotWal
Silver Card is a card that is issued but Yachting Queensland for insurance cover. Web site is http://www.qldyachting.org.au/ and details can be found under the "Official Docs" menue on their home page. When you join a sailing club such as the Yeppoon Sailing Club you are issued this Silver Card as part of your local club membership.
Sausage
Sailing over would certainly be cheaper!! Not sure about my fitness though for the return race. Can you PM me your phone number? I'll have to give you a ring to lock in some details. I'll also see what the other Windsurfers are planning.
I have just been informed that the race is now scheduled for Saturday - why I'm not quite sure as the forecast looks better for Sunday (albeit slightly more North than North East). Will post if I hear anything else.
Hi Sailpilot
Sorry for no updates as I have been away from work Thursday and Friday, but it has been changed to today (Saturday) as it apparantly it "suits" the kites better somehow. I did find out on Wednesday though about the date change.
Apologies for not letting you but us windsurfers are maybe just going to go for a burn along the coast from Emu Park way. Have you got Sausage's number? Give him a call later this morning if you did come to Yeppoon?
