reminds me of when i was 18-19, a mate and i used to throw the car into neutral going down hills to preserve petrol. ![]()
thinking of going redcliffe next weekend
.
i'm at home today also. trying to get some work done.
I was down the Goldie today about 3.30 pm and there was nothing in the way of wind so I went up to Point Halloran and there was enough for a patchy but nice little sail.
I've only sailed there a couple of times. Its a nice venue. I shall go there more often.
The point has Eprapa creek on one side and Coochie channel on the other. It has a gently shelving bottom. The wind waves form up in neat lines in some parts and they stand up nicely over the shallow bottom. There are some big orderly swells that roll down the Coochie channel and a broad area of flat water in the lee of the reef that extends from the northern tip of Coochie. The estuary side seems to offer similar variety.
It was low tide when I was there. I think the flat water may disappear at high tide. Not sure.
The place has a nice feel about it. I'd love to sail there at low tide with a solid 15+ knots of northerly.
The only down side is the 100 metre walk but at least its firm sand and not mud.
There are rocks, crumbly sedimentary mud rock mostly not vicious bomies like Wello.
Lots of grass and shade. No barbies or dunnies or playground.
Just a helpful warning for Queens, lots of blue bottles at the moment with the Northerlies blowing. They seemed to be bigger today (Monday) and more of them than last week. Saw probably a dozen in the hour I was out but only one got me. Problably won't get better till we get a southerly to blow them out again. Sting is a bit worse than the blue blubbers, like a blue ant but a bigger area.
JUst had an awesome sail at Queens with Kerry and Dr Gas. The wind was very north so reaching was almost at right angles to the beach. Downside was I broke a boom, oh well now I'll need to buy a better one ![]()
That must have been a great afternoon! (except for the boom)
I'm probably going to head out tomorrow if I can cadge a few hours of work. Probably get there about 4.
Hope to see someone there.
Queens' was really good today, overpowered on a 5 metre towards the end. Was that you on a 6 metre Haggar? No wonder the boom gave way!!
Man, pity about that 24 hour tummy bug going round (hint, hint). No way you could be expected to go to work with that. A fair few people have been laid up with that.
A day at home is what you need young man, with possibly a restorative visit to the seaside in the afternoon. Just to take in the healing, clean air of course. ![]()
yes, it has hit my office hard. ![]()
still i am needed on deck. not that i'm opposed to the odd sickie here and there. ![]()
its only my second day on the job so a sickie is out of the question really, going to try and get to queens this afternoon though
