Sounds like the judge has had enough of the general douche-baggery on the coast.

"Yet again, it's another instance of how a moment of foolishness can result in a lifetime of misery. I'm afraid these sort of things occur all too frequently in this community and on the Gold Coast in particular."

I agree fully ... seems like a common occurance South Port these days... I teach lessons every so often and I can't imagine what would happen if one of these idiots crashed into a student of mine.

I feel so sorry for this guy and even more sorry for his wife. He has to live with the consequences of a stupid mistake for the rest of his life. The guilt he would be feeling must be overwhelming. I couldn't live with myself if i harmed even one hair on my wives or one of my kids heads through a stupid decision or mistake. I'm sure the last thing he wanted to do was hurt his wife but in a moment of stupidity or lack of common sense that's what happened. I'm afraid there is a saying that i find myself saying a lot these days and that's "If common sense was common everyone would have it". It seems to be something that you can't learn some people have it and some people don't. I mean you can learn from your mistakes and i'm sure this guy has and would never do the same thing again given the same scenario but common sense would have probably stopped him doing it in the first place. That's how i see it anyway. This is one of those lose lose situations for all sides.

Yeah, poor guy, and even poorer, his family. Seven kids?!

I know it's not my place to judge, but...*ahem*

i agree... i think the biggest is the guilt that you have to live with and the anger from the family etc.

I guess I've done some pretty crazy things, so glad i didn't end up hurting someone... especialy a family member or friend.

Also, plenty of people are able to rationalize and say "well, it wasn't really my fault", "the boat operator should've been more alert as well", "s**t happens", and so on.

I feel very sorry for the people involved; what a tragedy. I guess there's no use pointing fingers now anyway...

yeah linda is going so good with her recovery, saw her yesterday and she is just walking unassisted and it is a testament to her strong will that she has turned a mega injury of a smashed knee+ into the positive!
the ambo's original reports were cautionary to say the least!!!

onya linda, looking forward to you passing me on a slalom board as usual in the future!
