so im looking at the graphs it seems that we will never have wind again here but cairns has green arrows and sun shine all week , is it actually like that there or is it just like how its always going to be windy here next sunday ?

Yeh Simon we're getting wind atm but not as strong as the graphs show, I had a nice sail today, sunny skies and just in boardies. Generally the coastal wind is gusty, out on the reef like at Green Island the wind is a lot better, also the water is clearer not like the muddy colour we have on the coast at the moment. Remember as your season finishes ours starts as it's doing at the moment, and it'll get better

A NQ road trip may be in order.

If you do Tim make Green Island a priority, better consistent wind, a two week boat pass is from memory $150, shack up in a backpacker joint. If you do it PM me, I don't actually look in the Qld thread often, I'll help where can.

Here's a little video I've posted before from a month or so ago

Na just clear water, but yes you have to pick the tides otherwise it ends in tears

Green Island is the place to be for the Australian winter for those wanting a cheap domestic escape from the cold.

Well I went end of June, I could have sailed every day if i had all my gear.
It still can be hit and miss like anywhere else.

Good thing that wind dropped while you were here Vando, you were to fast for us !!
Here is the last seasons data for Arlington Reef we usually take a couple knots of these readings for the wind speed on the water at Green Is

Not all about flat water out here, southern edges of the reefs are great for B & J too.

We're planning a Cairns week in June to test it out and I'm just wondering if the day tripping with the gear on the ferry is an issue. Do you just carry it on and pile it somewhere? Any limits on what you can take - one or two boards per person?

Hi Kim the boat guys were very helpful getting the gear on and off the boat however there is abit of a walk from the jettie to the Island. Most of the local have trolleys. If you are staying on the Island they will take it on there golf cart.

I would be more than happy to help With storage if you are coming out on a week beach pass and want to store your gear on the island.

TOODY THAT'S GREAT TO KNOW MY BIGGEST BITCH WAS THE WALK FROM THE FERRY TO THE BEACH AND THEN WHEN YOUR KNACKERED AT THE END OF THE DAY IT WAS JUST TOO MUCH

ITS A WINDY PLACE FOR SURE AND WHAT YOU SEE AROUND CAIRNS/YORIES ISN'T THE WIND YOU GET ON THE ISLAND

LOT OF OFF SURE WIND SO MAKE SURE THE LOCALS KEEP AN EYE ON YOU

What are the accommodation (The lower cost end of the market) places on the island?
Is a week beach pass is 7 days or 5? What about a shorter stay, say 3 nights?

And what sort/size gear do you hire out?
Thanks
Jeffro

Its my understanding only one place on the island is expensive, hence you travel each day, sure the locals will respond
