I am new to Gold Coast and so far enjoyed only flat water on Seaway. I want to try and experience some waves on Gold Coast. I heard about Coolangatta but never actually saw any windsurfer there. Can you share your experience with me?
1. Are there any safe spot to enter water without risking all gear to be crashed?
2. Are there any sharks nets to be aware off?
3. Are there any shark at all?
4.What windsurfing skills are needed? If intermediate is ok or only for experts?
5.What is the perfect setup for this spot? Board - Liters, Sail - m2, Wind - knots?
I am 80kg.
Sorry, the question are maybe naive but I had never been on ocean waves. I know only Ricketts' Point in Melbourne well. It was just perfect :)
Most sailing is done at Currumbin or North Kirra.
I consider myself intermediaterish and have some truly excellent sails at both locations, and a couple of poor ones. I found the common problem is when the wind is too onshore in direction, making it difficult to get out. When the wind is right, a cross-onshore, ... it can be good ![]()
Keep an eye on these forums and be on the lookout for a North Wester, which is best at North Kirra. People will post on here if they are going.
While on the topic does anybody still sail Narrowneck? I've been a few times but the wind is always flaky and weak compared to the broadwater.
Bring on Summer.
