I have been today on the nice trip to the Hinze Dam and come to obvious conclusion.
It could be quite nice to wind surf sail here once in life at least.
Flat nice clean water, good wind direction.
Just one question remains.
If windsurfing is allowed over there ?

I found answer to my own question: YES

Did you ever sail there already ?

Hi Peter, what do you reckon is the best wind direction for the lake?

It seems that today was ideal wind direction for that lake and lunch from this middle peninsula.
S or SW

A bit of warning to everybody !
Don't drop a thing !
At the depth 85 meter will be difficult to dive in to pickup

I'm surprised few sail on the dams. An other dam I'd like to sail is Lake Awoonga -up near Gladstone. I fished there half a dozen times for big barra, but since buying a sail board ( only December last year) I can see a great potential, with an awesome combo of meter long barra early morning/ late arvo and into the night, and some great high speed runs during day light hours in the consistent s-easters.

Hinze Dam has plenty of stocked bass, so there would be some good fishing during the warmer months, and some fun sailing on a family holiday.

Have sailed Awoonga in 25knot SE winds and loved it! but it funnels into the dam and gets gusty. Chop in the middle gets about 1-2 foot, but good speed runs.

Will be trying to sail BP dam when its the right conditions. (SE is the best)

Surely it would be very, very gusty?

To be honest I wouldnt bother with dams. Ive done a bit of bass fishing at Hinze, North Pine Dam, and Wivenhoe and from 2009 til 2011 we had huge increase in dam capacity and allot of previously exposed land was flooded and the trees that were there. With a tidal spot you can see what your sailing over, in the dams you cant. I would hate for someone to fall in and land on a dead tree. Just my opinion.

IF YOUR AT HINZE YOU MIGHT AS WELL GET TO THE BROAD-WATER.
Unless there is some magical funnel of wind coming through the hills i imagine the coast would be windier
