..Did you get good wind and waves through Christmas and was it overly busy through that period?
Of the three weeks we were there we sailed more than half the days and even took a day trip up north to a 4x4 only location where there were perfect waves. Toward the end of the 3 weeks it was pretty much sailing everyday. I was spent by the end of it!
The beauty of Elliott Heads is the diversity of options depending on the tide and wind direction. From swell and small waves to flat water, and even a knee deep lagoon on high high tides that gives you a spot for learning!
As you can see from the image there is a small sand island in the middle, which when the wind is in the right direction, creates a section in the channel at mid to low tide that is like glass. So you can really get some speed up and then just past that, hit the chop.
If there is wind there are always kiters or windsurfers there and on the really busy days there are so many options to choose from you don't get in each others way. Plus - no boats to dodge!! Only about 2-3 days where there were plenty of people swimming but thanks to the current we don't get in each others way as they stay shallow.
To top it off the Windsurfing and Kitesurfing community up there are a great bunch! We have been going there for the past 3 years for a holiday and this was by far the best one yet! We've pre-booked for the next 2 years..
