I have an idea
What if we could organize here on Gold Cost every weekend grand and unofficial Gold Coast Slab Challenge ?
We could meet at one of the favorites flat water speed runs : KFC, Train or Grand and run for few hours competition.
One rule only.
Top Instant GPS speed recorded in the competition times wins.

Any size sails and board combination allowed. Kites should be welcome to join too .

Award: Big slab of good local made beer ( to promote our beautiful Gold Coast) funded by all competitors.
If we manage to have 10 competitors then $5 p.p should allow us nice Slab $50 worth.

The main idea is actually fan and competitive spirit.

Because GPS units are expensive and not that common one or two units could be available at starting point for everybody willing to participate and use.

Additional attraction could be wind unpredictability. We will proceed with challenge whatever the wind speed is.
So we could have 5 ktn or 35 ktn or more

Macroscien, sounds good.

Hopefully you can make some of these events also

We'll make sure a slab is on offer as a prize.

Fantastic idea with this free race Queensland .
To be fair we don't have ideal race conditions here on G.C. so proposed by me format is minimalist.
Runs are very short.
But if works and bring some interest one day one of this free races could be organized here on G.C.

Wouldn't it be smarter to limit it to a wind strength of no more than 20 knots, no starting after 2.40pm and set a time limit of 40 minutes?

That is a danger that we have all take into account. You will just come for 5 min, make a run , game finish, grab the slab.
Not even anybody come closer.
But that will be all fun for rest of us -weekend runners -to test our skills and lucky against the pro

What will be recommended GPS if anybody decide to buy one? Is it still GT31?
