Hi Folks,

Well will it or won't it this Sunday. We would like to think it will.... so we are calling it on!

We will have spotters at the Lake providing updates during the morning.

If your keen, aim to be at the Lake, Boreen Point, up the north east corner point around 12pm for a bbq and briefing.

Few things you will need...

1.It's super handy if you can pre print an entry form and bring along with you...this link will take you to the form for the Bribie island event, but its only the back part you need to complete so if you can print out and complete as it will save time on the day for everyone. http://www.windwanderers.org.au/Portals/0/pdf/NORBribieIsland.pdf

2. Entry fees, $20 on the day, $35 if you are not a member of a WS club (to cover insurance) it's cheaper if you purchase a 'season pass' both can be payed for here by secure Pay Pal..
www.windwanderers.org.au/Events/FreeRace/OnlineEntryFees.aspx

3. BBQ food and gear and drinks (there are some wood fired BBQ's around the lake) or bring your own.

4. A GT31 if you want to get your results logged in the official board, you can still participate with one or HIRE one from the club on the day if you don't have one.

5.Your windsurf gear, SUP's, swimmers , toys, family and friends and patience & good spirits!

It's a pretty chilled place the lake so we are all looking forward to the arvo what ever happens wind wise will be (currently it looks like a later blow than early but who knows, there is going to be wind, just how much we don't know, but it has been windier there lately than what the forecast has said (local seabreeze thermals) just be there for sign on from 12.00 just in case, racing could be from 1.00 , we may even run 2 sessions if its good.

There is going to be a lot of action on the Lake on Sunday there is going to be some other sailing races so you may need to drop gear off then park further away, we will have the WW tent up at the spot.

After the day's sailing we will retreat to the Pub to brag about how good we are, share some yarns down a cold one and draw some prizes, which we have a fair few of, so be there to share in the goodies.

Make sure you have us on your FaceBook because we will be doing updates on that , follow the link from the website...and all the other info is there also. www.freeracequeensland.com/home.html

See you at the Lake Sunday.

As noted above, there will be other races on at the lake. The LCSC Cat Challenge attracts around 80 Catamarans.
If the wind gets strong enough for Freerace then they will also be moving very fast.
Their race course requires traveling upwind and downwind across your path.
Please take extra care. SAFETY FIRST.

Hey Tony,

While that sounds fun, our race official has no plans to put another race across the top off an Olympic Triangle during the regatta.

Cheers

What will the parking situation be like on the day? With a big catamaran regatta on?

Probably going to be 'challenging' may be case of dropping gear off then parking bit further away, turn LEFT as you get to the hill on the lakeside to avoid having to drive around near the sailing club, where no doubt there will be a lot of trailers etc, I'd avoid bringing a trailer..

Should be a good atmosphere up the lake with all the action on!

Come in via 'Pomona' due to Noosa Tri weekend Tewantin access will be very limited.

I really want to come up for this but all the action going on up there and an unfamiliar place (to me) is scaring me off. Let alone I only have a trailer to carry my gear so maybe I should skip this time with the wind report only being average also.
Cheers
Marty

Marty, Lake Cootharaba is a shallow lake, but not so shallow you hit the bottom! so no dramas. Also, these conditions look very favorable for the lake. It catches a seabreeze on days like today and is usually windier than anywhere else on the sunshine coast.

The event will probably run today. Briefing at around 12.00 if you change your mind.

To be honest, there will be limited parking near the sailing club, and probably north from there aways. Other than that, you will still be able to park within walking distance to the water, and there will be people around if you want to drop off gear and park a bit further away. Just won't be deserted like it normally is.

Dylan.

We'll touch base on the day and make sure there won't be any interference. SAFETY FIRST!!

Thanks to everyone for putting on a show Sunday and making the best of the conditions at the lake.

We are pretty stoked with the support it received and took allot of learnings from the day.

It was noted that we need to be flexible during a freerace event are as a result we are working on some improvements idea to share with you soon.

So stay tuned and get ready to back up for another freerace session soon.
