Yeah man haha, been out of jail for several weeks now.
Ill be graduating in 2 weeks, I'm considering writing HMAS Cairns as my preference base. Which is why im back on these forums asking about windsurfing. Otherwise ill just put HMAS Sterling (perth)as my preference base.

So can anybody fill me in on the far north qld wind season?

hey scully, how's things.

winter is the windy season with SE trades blowing for months. it seems most of the locals try and go out to one of the islands for the good wind. i'm not sure how much wind they get in cairns itself.

i think in summer they sip rum around the pool and chase super models.

firie or one of the other local guys wil be able to give you a more accurate picture.

Hey Scully, from May through to Sep usually FNQ has good trade winds, better than down here at Townsville.Lot's of guys sail at Yorkeys,Lake Tinaroo or catch the ferry over to paradise- Green Island.Summer is not so good unless you get the wind before or after a cyclone,it's a good time to take a trip to WA or NZ and get out of the bloody heat. But yes winters up here are great and if we get some consistant trade winds then it's magic.Cheers.
ps I think all the super models follow the Cairns crew around as there aint to many around here.

Sorry mate missed your post

Winter's our season, nice warm sunny days with moderate wind on coast and good wind on the reef as in Green Island. That's the good news, the reality is it has been crap the last few years, this year has been hopeless. We have had some great days on the reef this year but no way as consistent as it used to be

If you love your sailing go to Perth, me I hate the cold and love FNQ

Just checked your profile and see you're chasing freestyle and wave gear, Cairns might not be the right place for you Scully, just rough wind chop on the coast.

If you want to talk, PM me your number and I'll ring, might be best

What's happening at Home Hill? I know Alva is overflowing with Kiters,me I would rather travel a bit further to Bowen and catch some good wind.

as a teen growing up in home hill the river bed was a good place for our motox bikes and the brige and mill made good climbing gyms. i remember townsville had a wind drought for awhile so i toook up golf, that seemed to end the drought, remember pulling out of comps after the 1st nine trying to drive a little white ball into a 30knt headwind and heading to the beach.
also it is easier to get to the reef at cairns than it is at townsville.
