I have just been reading about the "learning to windsurf" event that occurred on the Gold Coast recently.
I learnt to windsurf on the Gold Coast many years ago and would love to get back into it as a much older bloke. I'm currently living up on the Fraser coast and would like to find out whether here or on the Goldie there exists an opportunity to acutally have a sail similar to event mentioned in the forum. I've heard a significant amount of sailing goes on up at Burrum Heads?
Just like to have a go again with the intention of getting amongst it again. Can anyone give me some ideas.
Cheers WoW
I don't know where the next learning to windsurf event is being held but as you say it was a great initiative and has from your feedback created the desired effect of getting people stoked again.
A friend of mine picked it up at 55 and he is always out on the bigger days with us and the ear to ear smile on his face is enough for me to know you are on the right track by trying the sport again.
The new gear is exceptional and will make your transition back into the sport really enjoyable. Have you thought of asking around at the schools for some advice and perhaps a trial of their newer gear with a more advanced lesson structure? The schools can be found on the WQ site.

Hope to see you on the water soon.
There are quite a few of us sailing from Torquay Beach at Hervey Bay.Any day with sufficient wind ideally from SE-E and usually around low tide, you will find someone on the water,we are a friendly bunch and very approachable. Definetley more on the water here than Burrum.
Good to hear Wow. I made it to the last weekend of the Gold coast 'learn to winsurf' and had a blast (even without much wind) The equipment was great and the guys friendly. Apparently the trailer is returning feb/mar so there'll be more opportunity then.
As far as other advice goes the only thing that is blindingly obvious to me after the weekend is how much easier it is to learn techniques on the new equipment. Wide boards and light rigs just helps so much.
Good luck![]()
