We are now in our third season of racing BIC Techno 293 in Brisbane at the Royal Qld Yacht Squadron at Manly.

There are 8 BIC Techno 293 race boards in Brisbane which are raced at Royal Qld Yacht Squadron at Manly. Yachting Qld has 3 BIC Techno 293 which they purchased to foster and develop sailboard racing. The remaining 5 are owned privately. The boards owned by Yachting Qld are stored on their premises at Manly within the RQYS grounds.

Yachting Queensland has a formal Youth Development Program (2008 -2013) in place providing an effective pathway from youth to open age sailboarding.

This program has been very successful, yielding the following results at the Australian Youth Championships

Australian Youth Champion Boys 2009 - Luke Baillie AUS-833
Australian Youth Champion Girls 2009 - Joanna Sterling AUS-254
Australian Youth Champion Girls 2010 - Joanna Sterling AUS-254

These sailors have gone on to represent Australia at the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships in Brazil 2009 and Turkey 2010.

The following course racing regattas were conducted in Queensland in the past 12 months:

2010 BIC Techno 293 Queensland Open Championship at RQYS April 2010
6 competitors (including 1 NSW competitor)
7 races conducted

2010 BIC Techno 293 Australian Mid Winter Youth Championships at RQYS July 2010
11 entrants (including 3 NSW and 1 NT competitor)
10 races conducted

2010 BIC Techno 293 Queensland Youth Championship at Yeppoon September 2010
4 entrants
10 races conducted

2010 BIC Techno 293 - Sail Brisbane regatta November 2010
7 entrants (including 3 from NSW)
10 races conducted

In additional, the Royal Qld Yacht Squadron at Manly conducted 2 races each week for sailboards (BIC Techno 293, RSX & others) during the sailing season as follows:
Spring Series - September to December - 28 races conducted.
Summer Series - Feb to May - 14 races to date.

The BIC Techno 293 class races around a trapezoidal course, which includes windward, reaching and downwind legs. Race durations are between 30 and 60 minutes.

Hi iCarbon, thanks for the info and the video, those reaching runs looked like a lot of fun, not too sure about that race where everyone looked to be pumping the whole course but great to see so many young competitors. It would be great to see something like that here.

I noticed there seemed to be a number of board brands in that class on your clip, some starboards, tiga's and techno's by the looks. What type of boards are incorporated in your class or is it just the BIC Techno 293 allowed?

RQYS will welcome any type of sailboard capable of sailing around the trapezoidal course. To date the majority of sailors are using BIC Techno 293s (205 litres) and RSXs (220 litres). The occasional raceboard has made an appearance.

With respect to the Techno 293 video, they are all Techno 293s with the odd BIC Hybrid. Sail number FRA38 was a Hybrid.

The footage was shot at the French Nationals in 2008 and 2009.

Techno 293 with 2008 graphics (for French sailors only) look as follows:

Sounds great, well all you course sailors there is an option for you here with everything laid on. All you have to do is become a member and turn up.

Perhaps Suellen could publish the membership fees in all categories so people are aware of the costs. I understand there are different fees relative to age etc.
