Hi,
Someone has offered me a work opportunity in Brisbane. I have done the majority of my windsurfing in WA on wave boards and 4.0/4.5m sales. I have lived in Sydney for 10 Years but have basically given up sailing in Sydney due to the relatively lite winds.
Are conditions in Brisbane the same or better than Sydney? How does the Wind strength and direction in Brisbane compare? For an 80kg sailor, what wave board volume and wave sail size would be most used? I assume the closest wave sailing spot is Redcliffe.
Many thanks in advance
Redcliffe is B&J mostly with short sharp chop. I mostly use 6M on 90 L FS at 75 KG. But still get to use my 86L acid and 4.7 frequently enough. Most days see the kites out early with boards coming out at 4 to 4.30pm. More waves north and south at the coasts but not really DTL stuff.
Harbord,
If you are after real wave sailing conditions then I would think that the gold or sunny coast are more legitimate options over redcliffe. If you want something close to brisbane then you will have to consider bay sailing which is predominantly slalom / freeriding, and B&J when the wind picks up.
You will need bigger gear - guaranteed.
I moved back up north from down south a little while back, I found I could get away with a 5.3 and 4.7 on 80L around places like Gerroa, but up here have had to opt for larger gear.
To get me on the water in Brisbane I have slalom kit with a largest sail of 7.5m and 100L board, and now have a 5.7 in my wave kit (shortly will puchase and 90L+ wave board)...and I am about 85Kg or so.
Both coasts have some DTL wavesailing options, the Gold Coast in Sth direction winds.
