Hi,
Will go camping with a few friends at lake Cootharaba begin October. Plan to take the Windwandere beginner board to give some of the folks a try.
Which camp-side would you recommend for beginners?
Thanks,
Stephan
Just got back today after a week there. Great spot at the camp gound at Boreen point. Can camp right beside the water. Powered sites a litle further back.
Costs for 2 adults or less $17/night unpowered site or $24 powered. $9 per extra adult.
Walk to a really good pub with really cold beer and counter lunches/dinner.
Lots of wildlife, kangaroos, birds, even carpet snakes.
Water was warm hardly requiring a springer.
Wouldn't recommend during school hols as will be very crowded. Last and this week almost no-one there. Whole place to ourselves apart from say one or two other camps.
Heaps of open space to sail, good from N to SE
Really recommended.
Enjoy - Cheers!!![]()
Ever since they changed wardens with two Mr 'Nice' Guys, the numbers have dropped dramatically, and I mean DRAMATICALLY lol. I have been there week b4 and week after Christmas, also at Easter prime holiday time, the place is hardly 50% full. Most regulars dont even bother going there anymore because they have been so pathetically treated. Sad but reality.
I second that, a group of us were looking to book there but the guy was so rude i thought bugger it. Not sure what there problem is, thought they would be happy to help but no, waste of space people like that.
Elanda Point always had the rude caretakers, and Boreen was point was great, that still the case ? You can sail almost any where as it is about waste deep, best place for learning
Bugger, I remember when it was only $5 per person per night, now $17
The facilities back then were pretty good to, and the pub is the Appolonian - they used to do a roast for Sunday lunch
It's a bluddy camping ground ffs, and the staff will always be retarded because they are government/council workers. cumfy jobs, good long service etc.
Enjoy the beautiful lake and surroundings.
All I can say is that they were pleasant enough, kept out of the way, amenities were very clean, mowing was being done while we were they to keep it tidy. No issues at all. So I dunno what the problem is with the past comments. Other people we met loved the place........
As previous note said, just enjoy the environment while it lasts.
Thanks for all replies. Last question. Can it be that the walk into deeper water is longer at Elanda than at Boreen Point?
Thanks
yep as far as I know have stayed at both camp sites over the last 15 years and Elanda was always a further walk- with more hidden submerged rocks!
Although when I was last at Boreen earlier this year it seemed like even boreen is a long walk from the camp ground,(seems like water levels were lower?) not as far if you rig and sail the other side of the yacht club, just walk a few meters get on and sail across the lake.
