Hi,
I read on the local paper this morning that there are plans for redevelopment of the foreshore between the Broadwater caravan park (just south of KFC) and the new Aquatic Centre. This area includes the Train.
There was mention of massive amounts of dredging and land reclamation to build parklands, boat ramps etc.

This could threaten the future of the Train and nearby areas (e.g. KFC).
Or enhance it?

Does anyone know anything more about this?

I did a quick search and uncovered this map:
www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/documents/mp/broadwater-parklands-stage-3-map.pdf

* the new carpark looks to be exclusively for trailers, and the things jutting out into the water look like boat ramps.
* land has been reclaimed on front of the caravan park - no more waterfront sites
* Parking at the Train gone?

Dredging don't have to be all bad
I propose to dredge 3 intersected channels across Broad water shallows.
From KFC to Sea World one and two other at angle to create Louderitz like speed channels for every wind direction.
At least people don't need to go to Namibia but could come to Gold Coast to world class experience.

This will create 3 channels to cover all wind directions.
If we allow for some engineering banks of the channel should be even and raised to allow sailing in high tide.
I could also imagine big inflatable sleeve /pipe along the channel that could be filled with water to create wave brake on demand.
Than instead of 3 channels we will have evenly flatten bottom - say 70 cm low tide and two parallel inflatable sleeves / pipes rotated on demand relatively to wind direction.

Sad but true. Think I read somewhere that 30 car spaces were to be provided, but the reclaimation of land is the real problem. Stealing valueable
water way area for the Games open space, its a real shame. Nobody uses that area now. Reclaimation is so expensive and a real waste of rate payers
money. Tom is up to no good I'm sure of it. (offsetting open space for the CST) Somebody needs to whinge to Dawn but I think its too late.

At least you'll get some work out of it Tony.

All it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to sit idle and do nothing. There are two types of people in the world- part of the problem and part of the solution. Which one is Tom?

What are the 80 people working full time will be doing? or is it just 80 full time job for less than a year during the construction?

In Melbourne was parking meter at every beach bay -so maybe there are plans already to introduce here in Queensland too.
Then plenty of work for enforcing guys.

Great...That and a cruise ship terminal..Someone should talk to Dawn but I'm sick of talking to her as she doesn't care about water sports.

Agreed our biggest threat is the CST and casino resort on wave break Island , add the bridge for access, construction roads , bardges for cranage , site fascilites for construction work ,33kv underground (or on the cheap overhead ) feed to the new substation , piping for water and piping for sewage . With all this in place there will be little left.

The computor modleing for ships to enter the broadwater is such that with extensive dregding we would only see a one or two ships in per year probably around winter when there is no wind and the swell also needs to be bellow a metre , in fact there was only a 100% success rate when it was dead flat with no wind. Seems like a big sacrifice for very little .

I am also concerned that we and the Kiteing boys and girls are being left out of the discussion not intentionaly but due to our unorganised nature ( no clubs ect ) . I would love to know the numbers per weekend of windsurf/kitesurfers who use the BW and think we should start getting a little louder.

"You can be the best surfer, diver, artist, I'm happy for you, but I will be listening to the people that matter ... It's more of an issue for high-profile people like the CEO of a cruise ship company ... they're the high-profile people I'm worried about ... Every Mick Fanning that comes out, I can find a high-profile surfer to say it's a fantastic idea."

WTF!! Sounds like facisim, at a guess Tom's probably one of those 60 foot 30 knot "gin palace" boat owners trying to run us all over on his way to do laps around efron island.

Definitely Worth filling this out: www.change.org/p/the-queensland-state-government-to-cease-all-support-of-a-proposed-cruise-ship-terminal-on-the-gold-coast

Totally agree and I've filled this out previously. They only have 4 thousand signatures and the target is 75 thousand (although I don't know what that triggers). Please everyone sign this petition.
