I managed to get some footage of the slalom racing yesterday, which I have been meaning to do for quite a while.
I was using a new board for the first time and haven't quite mastered it yet so I was bucked off a number of times through the six races. This is race 4 and I fell at the first mark, managed to get back into second and then a freerider wandered onto the course and cut me off at the last turn allowing Simon Cunliffe to get by and he is super fast off the wind so there was no catching him after that. The only silver lining is that it allowed me to get a lot of the other competitors in the video. I've had to add music to the clip to disguise the colourful language I was using to describe how pleased I was to be in the drink and have everyone passing me. I couldn't catch Vando so you'll probably only see him from the back (his best side as it turns out).
It was a great day of racing and I'm hoping the "on board" footage inspires a few more people to come along and give it a try. There are a number of divisions to suit your gear and experience so almost anyone can come along and be confident that they will have a great day out. Even if you don't win Ed will be sure to cook you an awesome hot dog which makes us all winners on the day.
Nice looking board Scot. How'd you find it?
Hey mate, she is quick but very flighty, I was having a lot of trouble keeping the nose down and got kicked off in a most spectacular fashion at one point. I'm going to put a different fin in it as the one I was using may have been a big part of the problem. I know my falcon 121 was a completely different board once I put the select fins in it but I've been using the black projects and they are also very nice in it so I'll try one of those.
you chose the best race for the video , the one that i beat you in
. it was a good day of racing .
I thought you would like that one. There was no catching you off the wind...
Nice work Scotty but where's the big crash ![]()
Ha, unfortunately it didn't look quite as spectacular on video and there wasn't as much action from the other competitors so I chose this one to broadcast. I might put that one on a separate video along with some loop fail videos that do look as painful as they appear on screen.
Great video Scotf.
Would have loved to watched you guys in action. Was at Cootharaba for the long week end to hone our skills or maybe not haha. Hope one take part. You video is inspiring.
Cheers
morgan
Was that the first Race?, as it doesn't look as choppy as it was for the rest of the day, Just seen it was the 4th race...
Great vid Scotty, you had the hammer down! Very close between you and simon. Amazing how the water seemed much rougher on the day, some perfect swells on the way out.

Yeah deejay. For some reason the go pro doesn't capture the water state. The last video I did at queens was the same, even though the sea was big and angry with whitecaps it looked dead flat on screen.
A mate of mine was asking how fast we would have been travelling, I've never worn my gps so does anyone know average and top speeds for he day. I guess only Vando will have the top, top speed...
i hit 29 knots in a couple of races and just over 30 once . in the video it looks flat like normal but then you look at the board and realise its in the air half the time . it was some huge swell to be hitting at those speeds
I know we were getting atleast some 4-6ft swell at times through the day, throwing the poor boat around a bit. Picking up the back marker was a challenge, Good fun though, thoroughly enjoyed the day, and learnt a few things to try when out on the water again, eg, foot placement in a gybe, nearly everyone had very similar footing when entering and exiting their gybes.
Scotty
Great video. The drag race with Simon to the finish line is fantastic. Its intersting how the wide angle of the go pro doesn't show how big the chop was.
I think it was the 4th race. You caught me, red handed, hitting the starting line, 5 sec before the green flag went down. ![]()
Thanks for sharing.

I crossed the line in time with my starting watch..........you we just late in dropping the flag. ![]()
Nice video, .....makes me feel like joining the next race. Already registered with Bayside club but somehow being shy to race as I've never done it before.![]()
Not really. I just don't want to be run over when guys go for 2nd and 3rd lap.
You will be fine GeoGeo, if it is any consolation in my first race (only Vando and I were in it in those days) Vando lapped me twice and when I got out I swore I'd never race again. I found out that he was one of the top sailors and so I persisted and now I really love the race days. I'm no expert but it has improved my skills no end as the competition forces you to perfect your technique.

If it was the second race, I think I was about 3-5 seconds off on the flag lol. But the rest of the races I was good.
I'll definitely give it a go and hopefully get a couple of guys from GC to come as well. I'm sure it'll be a good fun plus lots of things to learn from experienced guys.
