Bayside SC hits Cootharaba YC!

What a cracking sail! Loads of us up there. Perfect race course setting, (thanks Charlie) and plenty of breeze.

Highlights for me would be Brad C trying to stuff his board up Mark IP's bum at a gybe mark so hard that Mark now has a limp.

Or

During a hole in the wind, hearing Dave W's exasperated comments as he was pumping, "Why won't you plane you *$%@!ing moll?"

Thanks again Cootharaba YC, you turned on a great event again, the gear won't need a wash again until next year.

The lake at its best for a while, oh the joy it would have been had we got going that hour earlier.

But overall a great day, until that last race where i seemed to sail into the only mole of a hole on the entire course. Nothing like bobbing around watching every other bastard planing past.

One of the true joys in life, sailing past Darryl as he has an on water meltdown! I will treasure it.

ps You did sail past me 3 or 4 time before hand but they dont count.

Thanks richie..... I must admit, I was having an R+ conversation with my gear and the wind or lack thereof when bart went past.

First of all, my sincere apologies to Mark for ramming him on the gybe mark. Sorry I didn't get to see you after the race, I hid like a chicken under the bed of our hut...
I thought I could make it through but hit some wake and got off balance and it all went pear shaped. Hope you heal soon.

Well what a weekend, we left the Gold Coast at 8 pm Friday night in the mild rain. By the time we got to Brisbane it was teeming down and just got heavier the further north we went. I've never seen rain this heavy (I even got my girlfriend to drive, cause she's a far more reliable driver than me...( written by Sonya)). Passing through Pomona around 10.30pm there was about 2 inches of water across the road as we left town. A couple of K's down the road was a torrent running across the road (start of Louis Bazzo Drive). There was no way we were going through that one so turned back to find another route. On the return to Pomona, what was 2 inches was now 2 feet in the shallows and covering most of the reflector posts on the other side of the road . We looked away for a moment and when our eyes returned to the road/river we noticed one post had washed away, so backed up the road and slept for a couple of hours on higher ground. Keeping in mind we brought our beloved hound "Celti" (german shepherd as featured in avatar) who was now soaking wet, farting and sharing the single cab ute with the two of us. Some how we managed an hour's sleep or so under squishy circumstances.

We awoke at 1 am, the rain had subsided, so we decided to try to get out of Pomona. The water had receeded on the west side, so we exited and headed south to try get there through Cooroy via Elm street, (Nightmare on Elm street) it was also flooded and we had a few more hours kip. Waking again at about 4.30 we thought surely the route though Pomona was low enough to pass through by now but on return along Yulio forest drive we found corrugated iron strewn across the road along with skip bins and a shipping container to top it off. We back tracked in a round about fashion and got to Pomona at 5.30am, there was no torrent but a lake literally rising by the minute. Patience was starting to run thin on my part but Sonya was determined to make it to the lake so we made a last ditch effort to go around and come through Tewantin. Had Breaky in town there and did the last stint to Boreen point I guess it was about 6.30 am on arrival.
All up a bit over a 10 hour trip that's usually done in 3.
Anyway I had a great sail Saturday arvo and good dinners at the pub Sat evening wth a bunch of the crew.
Awesome racing Sunday.

We won't mention the canoe adventure on Sunday morning..... hmmm

We look forward to the next meet at Boreen Point.
