Not bad prices considering the AU$ is still on the way up . Good excuse for a trip to Maui anyway!

I got my kit from kieth at simmer hawaii.

new 2009 simmer icons in 5.9, 5.3 and 4.5
and a 2010 powerex 85% rdm.

to my door, it worked out the mast was $600, and the sails were $550 each (small sails a bit cheaper, big ones a bit more). However I bought the stuff in 2 shipments so as I wasn't sure about buying from overseas initially. Once i got my 5.9 thou, it was such an awesome sail, so it took me 2 weeks to scrape together a bit more money to buy the smaller sails and the mast to suit. Would have saved another $200 if I bought it all in one go.

The 2010 sails were only about $100 more, but the difference is fairly minimal from what i have seen so i saved some some bucks, plus i like the look of the 2009's better anyway. Also the sail designer jason diffin recently went to goya, so might get goyas for next quiver :)

Apparently i think its caloundra sailboards are stocking simmers now too, not sure what the prices are. For me the service from kieth was awesome, ordered sail on friday, and they arrived at my door the following tuesday, so for me no question who I was gonna get the sails from.

Plus its nice to have something different from all the north sails in bris, and the NP on the gold coast :)

also, my gopro HD arrives hopefully in the next 2 weeks, its gonna be an awesome summer, bring on more wind, like last week pleassee!!!!

p.s. someone buy my old 5.9 and 5.3, good sails i just have the wrong mast for them :D

Thanks for the info Swoosh.

I like North sails, in my limited experience they've been the easiest to rig. What sort of reputation do Simmer sails have?

Check these reviews:

For me personally, my 2007 north duke was a great sail in light winds when I had it on a north mast, but once I got the powerex rdm i found it quite difficult to set up and it only had a tiny sweet spot that was easy to miss. I never really felt it had a good top end cause the draft would move around a lot once it got overpowered, and you would be backhanded in all the gusts.

The simmer icon, has just got an awesome range. Super stable, and in my opinion easier to tune, you pretty much don't really need to touch the downhaul once you have it right, and using the outhaul you can set the sail up to get you going in less then 15kts, or handle gust 20kts+ days without being backhanded.

End of the day I wanted tougher sails which could handle my amateur wave sailing attempts, and the simmers were almost 50% cheaper then an equiv north sails quiver. I sail at manly usually whenever its windy cause its just the closest place to drive when you only have a few hours spare to go sailing. More then happy to show you how they rig and have a bit of a yarn
