Thanks Vando. We have done our best in this short time, but much room for improvement still. I am sure the kids will gain a lot of experience and fun from the event. Hope this is a new beginning of the sport. We are already looking at the Youth Olympics in 2010.

Hi Surfconnnect,
I have a 14 yr old daughter who has started to learn windsurfing and is showing a reasonable level of interest as she already knows how to sail. She is along way short of racing and I am the wrong person to give her guidance as I don't know what I'm doing either.
Is there any Junior activities she can participate in to advance her skills.
Thanks
Totally Daneli, any youths interested in the development program are welcome to part take. We have programs for beginners right up to State level. Upto Christmas we were running training every fortnight (Friday after school and Saturday morning alternate), based at Yachting Queensland at Manly. Tomorrow we leave for WA to compete in the Youth Nationals. A new training schedule will be set up when we come back, and your daughter would be most welcome to join in. Send me your email /mobile number and I'll keep you in the loop of the new program.
Regards
Padi

Results from day one (3 races):
Luke Baillie (Qld) 7, 1, 1 - Overall boys: 2nd
Reece Bailey (Qld) 10, 4, 4 - Overall boys: 5th
Joanne Sterling (Qld) 6, ?, ? - Overall girls: 1st
1st Race: was conducted in the WA land breeze and was directly of offshore. This made the wind flukey and light make it very difficult to sail in. non-planning conditions everyone was pumping and floating. The wind rarely pushed above five knot and race was more air rowing than sailing. This for the Queensland sailors Joanne, Luke and Reece proved to be very difficult conditions to sail in.
2nd Race: the wind shifted to the traditional seabreeze direction and began to increase quite rapidly to about 20kts. It was Luke's and Joanne's favourite wind range so no surprised they beat all other contenders in the fleet.
3rd Race: the wind continued to increase, reaching 25 at times. Tom England last year's champion was neck to neck with Luke and Tom past the top marker just a fraction behind Luke. But downwind Luke managed to get in and went past Tom to the bottom mark. In the second round Tom managed to come to Luke's tail but only managed to tail him to the finish line. It was a close and good race.
More results to follow.
Thanks Padi
Update for Jo's results 6,6,10. First girl so far. Jo the only girl to finish the second race. Last race was too windy for all the girls - 20 knots+ on a 7.5.
Michele
Congratulations Qld Riders, and extra congrats to Jo! Bringing it home for the girls who windsurf!
Well done ![]()

Queensland strikes Gold in both Boys & Girls event!
Many congratulations - Luke Baillie won Gold in the Boys Division and Joanne Sterling won Gold in the Girls division. Reece Baillie came 4th!
Joanne was 21 points ahead after the 3rd day of 9 races so she did not even have to race at on the last day to take Gold.
Luke was only a mere 2 points ahead after 9 races, and last year's defending champion Tom England was breathing down his neck. Luke kept a clear head and kept Tom on his tail in both the last two races, tacking when Tom tacks, covering his race and wind.
Both Luke & Joanne have been selected to represent Australia in the Youth Worlds in July 2009 which will be held in Brazil. As a result of our fantastic effort at this event, Yachting Australia has given us another 3 Technos One Design boardsets and two RSX sets. Any juniors in Qld interested in joining our development program please email me to enrol.
The entire Queensland team produced a magnificent effort in recording final placings of five firsts, two thirds, three fourths, a fifth, sixth, seventh and a twelfth in all classes (Sailboards, 29ers, Lasers, Lasers 4.7 & 420s).
