Thinking of having a look at VP tomorrow am Tuesday.
Haven't sailed in ages due to health, going to give it a go and see what happens....
Tune myself up for the rest of the week hopefully!!![]()
Well, I'm pretty determined to get the hang of Currumbin on a southerly, so I will be there on Wed and probably Thursday, not sure if I'll finish early enough tomorrow. Finish later on Friday, but I'll get there by 3.30 Qld time.
Definitely good to go for the weekend, unless the swell gets too big and gnarly.
The forecast is firming up for wind earlier in the week.
Sailed VP today. I waited and was ready to head for home when the wind came in about 10:30am. Had it all to myself - was good to get back in the water after a few months off. Targetting another sail tomorrow!!
Cheers ![]()

Hi Greg. I was on my way to VP and decided to keep going to SW as wind hadn't come in yet. Had a great day. I was planning on going to SW again tomorrow but might swing by to check out VP on the way if you are planning another sail.
did you get out greg?
i waited for the wind before heading down, by 12 i decided to keep working, looked patchy,,,,,
on again tomorrow me thinks.
Yeah I did, but as you said was pretty patchy. Started about 10:30am and good for an hour or so then just died. I rigged too small as usual thinking it was going to blow!! Came in and went back out and struggled for a while before it came up again, Left about 1pm. So had a reasonable sail in the end.
May give it another go tomorrow, will see what develops.
Cheers
I visited vp today with groms in tow to visit thier nanna and swung by the beach when I arrived(the one between the 2 retirement villages), must have been you I saw out there gregwed, if you saw a silver falcon wagon following you, I wasn't stalking, just trying to check your speed, I was doing a touch over 40 klm, that makes you a touch over 20kts - you speed demon![]()
Might head up to lake cootharbra ( not sure how you spell it ) this weekend, does it work in a SE and wheres the best place to launch from?
I'll be teaching I think.... but Id love to give currumbin a go man... Those pics look good, wish I was there
Lee - re Lake C, a great place for sailing.
I usually launch from the camping area south from the main area. Good place to park, just be careful of some submerged rocks. Alternatively, use the area near the Sailing Club, also some rocks there south of it, but they are marked with a bouy. Lake is about 2 metres at the deepest part, so safe to sail anywhere. Good in all wind from S, SE, E, NE to N from my experience. Just steer clear of westerlies. Plenty of chop when the wind gets up as well. Wide open spaces and pretty constant wind without hills impacting or creating turbulence.
You'll enjoy it.
Can you post up what the conditions are like - if you're heading down, really should head to VP sometime soon, especially with the tide being right atm
VP wasn't great yesterday, riggd in the rain when the wind was blowing, then died so I waited, got a reasonable sail in the gusts. Giving it a miss today, may see how it is on Sat. Three days has this old fart looking for an excuse to recover.
Hope you get sail Gestie!!
I like the idea of a webcam at VP.......
bugger.
i reckon today is the day, wind is here. i'll do a lunch run if it comes up.
yeah, VP would be the go. there is a camera at point halloranhttp://webcams.bsch.au.com/point_halloran_se.html
these guys instal and support cams. i've thought about getting looking into it. i can see the water out my window but it's not the wide vista as the halloran cam.
actually, it's the southerners fault.
the lack of mid level ridge to the south made ului stall and loose intensity as the surface temp dropped. ![]()
or that's my understanding.
