POLICE last night appealed to the public for information about a windsurfer who may have disappeared off Kawana about 3.40pm.
Witnesses told police they saw the man go into the water with his board and then struggle in the rough conditions.
They then realised he had not returned to the beach and could no longer be seen on the water.
The AGL Action rescue helicopter, water police and lifesavers joined the search which was abandoned at about 6.50pm because of bad light.
A police spokesman said the search would resume at first light today unless the man was found or the mystery was solved overnight.
One of the guys we went to Maui with said there is a resident 18 - yes 18 foot tiger shark up that way. It may have devoured him board and all.
That's nasty big. he is ex SAS and he still went white when he was telling me how he noticed it half way through a jibe and had no option but to pass over it between the dorsil and tail fin. Yikes!
i used to bodyboard kawana every weekend.
never saw any sharts.
