Yes a couple of times, but I get my info from people who have sailed there a lot.

I'll watch the Ballambi obs but don't hold ya breath waiting for me to show up.

With all due respect, this thread was about NE seabreezes on the whole NSW coast.

Everyone has a soft spot for their local windsurfing location. I used to for Narrabeen Lakes when I was a grommet.

I don't think Woollongong springs to mind as a good prospect in a seabreeze when there are so many other great spots around. Perhaps better in a big southerly.

Similarly not many people would recommend Long Reef in a NE wind either unless it was pumping or a big southerly.

Not recently but looks like the estuary has opened again. It was a great spot to speedsail in behind the banks and then wave jump out in the surf, all in the same run.

About 25-30knots. Using 4.6.5.0's.


The next year 1989 was very windy and the banks even better. I sailed there a few times on a 3.8 wave sail completely overpowered. Then again, I wasn't that good a sailor with only one full summer under by belt!

I'd like to check it out again this summer.

Mr Milk you can launch at callala bay in a n/e and less chop than husky, nice rigging area at the sailing club

I stayed at Hyams a couple years back and sailed in a NE'r and Southerly the day after. Was great sailing, fun ramps and the best colour water!

They are definitely there, but would you believe that in 30 years of windsurfing there I've never seen one while sailing?

As for dolphins, I've sailed with hundreds over the years.

I wouldn't worry too much about sharks. As I said, in 30 years of sailing there I've never seen one whilst sailing.

If it does concern you then perhaps Sanctuary Point is your thing - but you won't get the turquoise water, white sand, lack of weed, dolphins and consistent wind you get on the bay.

Looked promising but for 2 days in a row the sea breeze has bounced over Bellambi and landed in Lake Illawarra. We suspected this happened on occasions but now there's an anemometer in the lake it just complicates the decision making process for the coast dwellers. To stay or go?

Well, on the water at Huskisson around 4pm 23/12, it was 25-30+. I think it's the most wind I've ever held onto a 5.8 KA Koncept. The white caps were being sheared clean off and getting sprayed into my face. What a blast.

As for right now...enjoy a nice float at Belambi. Maybe try fishing.
