I think i'll just try St george sailing club.

If you want some nice B&J sailing then Laperouse is good, nice swell rolls into the bay.

Foreshore gets too choppy in SW and the runs are short. I think SW is the worst for St. George's river. This weekend I will try Canton, might sleep there and sail also on Sunday. If anyone is interested we can share a cabin at the caravan park in front. I thought lake Illawarra was only good in W, next time will give it a try. What a crap day at Canton Beach. There is wind but nowhere near the forecast. Thats typical for a low pressure system, so hard to predict. Still a few hours of daylight to go. Couldn't be bothered using big gear.

Well, I ended up at Quibray Bay (all alone until a kite turned up towards the end).
Really good spot in a SW!

The swell was max 20cm at the beach (down wind) and dropped to < 5cm when I went upwind a bit.
The surrounding mangrove trees are about 2-3m high, so not to bad at blocking the wind.
Just not as good as a sandbar.

Quibray is probably better than George's river at HIGH TIDE! much smoother, with nice little sandie patches on the Eastern edge near the mangroves to stand in while you adjust the outhaul.


It might even be better than the George's River sandbar, as the swell should be more consistent, rather than peaking just before you start the run downwind. I'll have to see in a SE.

Looking at the forecast now it all going to happen tomorrow, when I'm back at work.

Wind at Quibra Bay was fairly consistent. Low mangroves are only about 2m high meaning the wind has easy access to the water. Not as good as a sand bar but pretty good. There is a wind shadow behind the land masses, which is why all my gybes are before the western shore! Good 1km runs in most of the bay, but 300m at the narrowest points.

We were having lunch at the balmoral boatshed and saw you have some smoking runs through the gusts. We didn't see much traffic as the weather forecast was grim and the bombora was going off past grotto point as a result of the south in the swell.
