No.. its not a council proposal, but just for a minute think about it. Would you be prepared to pay, say $10, a day (say weekends only), for the privalage of parking and sailing at Kyeemagh ?- no different to parking at 'The Pond' or the beaches on the north side!

Yesterday was complete mayhem. Parking was a premium even though the bathes are closed. The BBQing/picnic crowd had completely over taken the area, and while its in their total right to use this area too, they did leave the park looking worse than a aftermath of a 3 day outdoor rock concert. I don't think Ive ever seen this area so crowded and abused!

Anyhow I was wondering how many people would still show up ther if they had to pay for parking. My experience in (my) council parks on the parra river foreshore, where meters have been installed, is that this quickly reduces the patronage to almost Zero!

Like I said, others have a right to use this area too, but a small fee for paking on weekends/public holidays would thin the crowd or at least reduce the number of surplus cars that access the area and at least pay for the clean up of the park after all have left - the mess was disgusting!

I know as sailors, we probably hogg the parking spots as much as or even more so than others (usually one car per sailor) - So I'd be prepared to pay - just to have some sort of order!

Its not a proposal - just a thought.

For us to hold a windsurfing event we need 3 levels of permits ($$), and have no special rights, and a ton of rules to abide by, which is all fine.

If you want to invite your extended family to the beach, have open BBQs on the ground, with 5 jet skis, leave the place a tip and intimidate the rest of the public, it cost nothing....

I totally agree Crash. I'm over it too. I think I'll be spending this season more down at Narrabeen Lake teaching my young bloke to sail. Sure the runs are shorter but bottom line is I am still out sailing without the hassle of jet skis etc.

Yeah, despite the negatives about lake sailing, the onshore aspect of Narrabeen Lake is hard to beat in Sydney. Easy and free parking at the western end, plenty of rigging space, lots of shade, taps with water and a relaxed atmosphere. Its really peaceful in the parkland at the western end of the lake and is just a good place to take it easy.

Yep, parking is a nighmare there. If your getting fed up with that area try Rozelle, sure the runs a short but its a great little spot. Excellent parking, BBQ's large grass area for rigging etc.

I share your pain Davman...but haven't been there on a crowded (ie non-windsurfers type crowd) for a while.
I'm just soooo tired from Sat & Sun up at Winda Woppa (on nth side Pt Stephens), all that sun, long clear runs, powered up on a 7.0m.



And...only 2 hours from Hornsby.
But I'll take Botany any day for a quick blast - it is a great windsurfingspot that accomodates most wind directions, partic in summer.

I am totally over Narrabeen, flukey wind, sh^tty water, shallow, short runs.

Kyeemagh was built out up to virtually the shoreline many years ago, so we just gotta live with it & all the other users

good shot indeed mate, where exactly is it? I did some of my first proper windsurfing off Shoal Bay last Xmas, is that the same area? I sailed across to hawks nest and back one day.

Sorry to change the thread a little, is there anywhere on the central coast (NSW) that is good for our lot?
The in laws live up there and i could kill 2 birds with one trip on a very regular basis.

Harrow got it right on another thread - Shiity overcast rainy weather on the weekend - nice sunnny weekday arvos - seems to manage the crowd nicely.

It was a bit hard to make out in the picture but I thought it was nearer the northern end. Lets hope.

There is one great spot I have started sailing in on Brisbane Waters. I've only sailed it in southerly winds but if we get a good north easter it looks like it would be awesome for the GPS challenge.



The ruler length is about 1.8 kms long and is a rough beam reach to a north easter. The length of the run behind the oyster racks is about 600 meters and the water would be very flat on a lowish tide. The wind should be pretty clean as there are no big hills for it to cross and covers a fair bit of Brisbane Waters before hitting this side. Its great on a southerly too. Nice rigging area, no crowds. No taps though and the launch is a bit muddy.
