Need some insider infos:
Planning a campervan family trip in January from Brisbane heading south and back up with a turning point in Nelson Bay. I am hoping for some sneaky wave/freeride sessions on the way.
Can anybody recommend some nice beaches along the way? Needs to be half way family and wife friendly though ...

Cheers

For wavesailing:
Currumbin (NE, SE)
Lennox (NE) or Skennars Head/Ballina (S, SE, NE)
Flat top Woolgoolga (S, SW, NE) although a bit hard to get to
around Valla/Nambucca (S & NE) & 3rd head/Wenona as NE gets really strong, bit tricky to find
Lighthouse, Port Macq
Old Bar/Wallaby Pt, Taree
Birubi, Anna Bay
.
For family:
Coffs area, Port Macquarie, Pacific Palms, Hawk's Nest & Shoal Bay.

You can plan your trip via forecasts and you should score a few days sailing. There are many more lake & flatwater
spots, the above are what I would consider the better wavesailing locations & more reliable for January weather.
Depends how selfish you want to be & leave your kids with your wife!

Pacific Palms (Elizabeth/Boomerang/Blueys Beach) is really nice & Boomerang gets top surf. Port Stephens is great &
good sailing as well so spend a few days there at least. Just remember the population seems to quadruple in January.

I'm going the opposite way in December, only to the GC & have done this trip many times pre & post children.

Reply for any clarification.

I'll add to the list South West Rocks, Trial Bay. This has to be one of the most beautiful spots on the NSW coast. Its magic on a NE seabreeze. Also its great for kids as there is so much shallow water for them.

Another vote for SWR's. This place is awesome in a decent nor-easter, and good fun in anything from north around to south-west. Pretty average in a southerly though.
