Is this an event with a slalom option? Earlier this week the forecast was nuclear westerly so I am wondering whether to pack the small board or not. Thanks

Briefing/rego on Saturday will be at 10.30am. First possible start not before 11am.

Sunday looks looks interesting. I have spoken to our starter on the boat this wk end, Nick Nelson, and if as forecast we have 25knot plus winds, then he’s willing to run Slalom. Although this could be a challenge in a southerly off the beach?
Please note as per the SIs:

3.3 It is not recommended that Formula races are conducted in above 25 knots of wind.

So in short, bring your Slalom kit. I’ve counted 15 starters do date so should be great wk end what ever eventuates.

Yeah it was real light. the current was going against the wind so it looked windier than it was.
The first race was just the sequence and then abandoned.
The second race I was closest to the pin end followed by Dave Howe and Tibor. Most of the fleet went right so I tacked so as not to separate but it was a mistake, the left was best. Tibor sailed great to get around the top mark first followed closely by Dave. I saw Dave bearaway in a nice gust and knew he was gone. Dave cleared out big time and won the first lap and then the race was cancelled. Tibor was second then myself and then Barry Fawkes. I was really happy for Dave as we have trained together a lot in those conditions and its good for the class to have a new sailor winning. Well done Dave

Why would you go to Sanctuary Pt when it is a off shore breeze?

By Sanctuary Pt I meant the lakes rather than Jervis bay...

so you guys sailed palm beach sanctuary point which is around the corner from the boat ramp sanctuary point, I have seen you guys use this location before when you have been blown off jervis bay, the water is much beeper with out the weed issues, after saying that it's not a good location for west to nth/w as the forcast predicted , your best bet would be to can the event and scoot up too primbee and set up a 1hr event

Thanks for the post Bruce. No that wasn't the plan mate. GPS/Freerace has the Slalom covered for the NSW Series this year as this is a Formula event. If it's too windy and not advisable to go Formula, then we'll switch to Slalom for a bit of fun though. Pack your smaller board if you have room for sure. Hope that clears things up

There was only 2 of us at Palm Beach. When you go to a Formula event you don't usally take speed and slalom gear with you. ;)

it looks like you missed the midweek briefing rick where you was told to bring some smaller gear incase of a blowout

yes rick I seen that and you know me I like to stir the pot but to be honest and unless you know the area palm beach isn't the place to sail when the forecast is from the n/w,wnw,or west ,mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm west maybe but defernately s/w is ok
the whole jervis bay area isn't great for sailing when the wind is from a westerly direction, to the s/w you have the mountains at Sassafras and the n/w you have barrengarry ,cambewarra , mossvale with the state forrest in the whole area and the wind becomes very turbulent
the reason I made the comment about primbee is because, most of the guys in the formula event were from Sydney and as they were heading n/th primbee would be the place to sail, as they were instructed to pack there slalom gear
I know you don't like sailing primbee because it's a bit hard on the fins, but as you have used a couple of my fins in the past , you can find me in the car park most of the time so you could have borrowed one
as it turned out primbee was the place to be with some high 30's and 40's
