To answer a few of the questions:

Lake Dangerous works in most winds except due north & south. Yesterday was WSW tending SW, its gusty (so is most places in Sydney) but you can find pretty flat water upwind under Pipeclay Pt.
It can go from 5 knots to 30 in a very short area.
Ra311 is Big mike or Wysey. the board is a iSonic 131 and a 7.6. One day he will come out of the closet

Most guys were on 6.5 to 7.0. You need a floatier board for the gusts (except S.Parker who was on a 65 ltr speed board).
Weed fins are optional, if its been blowing the same direction for a day or so then yes. But yesterday was fine on a pointer (I used a 36)
