been thinking about a speed board project for a while now ,looking out for a suitable donor board.starting with some tail cutouts, stepped deck, nose job.etc.i can get my hands on a 99ltr-f2 maui project ,04 model.would this be suitable as a donor board or a waste of time.

pirrad i think your maui project is the wrong board to chopp, you need an old board with a flatter rocker, have a look around for something like this
www.seabreeze.com.au/Members/Classifieds/ImageViewer.aspx?id=xr6-&n=-1
these boards are perfect to modify( have a look at the concaved deck), they have the volume in the tail and in front strapps to sink the deck, and chopp the nose, and there's enough room in the tail for cutout's , if you can't find a caveman have a look at an old f2 spootnik 85lt or a drop's speed slalom , you can pic up old f2's for about $200 or less

pirrad the reason i suggested a caveman slalom is because it was up your way and a perfect board to scoop the front and back foot ,they have volume between the back foot and the front foot area, and im sure they have a scooped deck, you shouldn't have to change the bottom to much just rout out the foot strapps
if you wan't to cut into the rails eg wingers and make the board narrower from between the front and back strapps you will have to reroll the rails

i allso think if you modify a wave board by routeing a flat through the center of the board you will have two humps either side, if you want to modify your waveboard to a speed board take the whole bottom off and start from scratch

Yes I've got the caveman."tunnel hull" post has taken over ,although this board isn't getting tunnel hull.Thinking about stepped deck [decrept style],tail cutouts and yes i have looked a doing the "dromedary thing" , 200mm off the nose. What is the significance of re rolling the rails?Got an old wave board to,haven't decided what yet ,it might be next winters project.Still haven't been able to find out exact volume of caveman yet????/

i wouldn't do the stepped deck, in all respects to decrept and gesty, in my oppioion all your doing is lowering the board into the water when the board is comeing off the plane and your feet are to far off the water line, i dont know what the rocker is like on the caveman but im sure you wouldn't have to do to much , doing a pintail wich meens a winger like mr loves board would be the go but your going to have to re roll the deck
you wouldnt be able to do a tunnel hull on the caveman,(not unless it was over 115lt)
but you would with the wave board
