After a bit of swimming yesterday I noticed my Aquapac had a bit of water in it.
Then I noticed a small bit of water inside the screen of my 101. You could touch the screen and it would spread.
It still turns on and displays OK.
Aus4 suggested take the battery cover off and leave it in the sun for quite awhile.
Ive done this and its all but gone except for a small bit of what I think is salt left in the bottom of the screen.
Any experts have any other advice??
I had the same thing happen to my foretrex 101 about 6 months ago (leaky aquapac). I dried mine out similar to how you did, by leaving it open in the sun for a while. I ended up with a few bits of crusty salt on my screen, but so far it has been working fine. I suspect it will eventually not work, probably on the day I break all those PB's...
In the past when I have had to repair marine electronics, the only way you have any real chance is to dunk it in fresh water as soon as it comes out of the salt. Then strip it down and let every part dry. Then spray with electronic cleaning spray, reassemble and keep your fingers crossed.
These days I wont even bother to repair any electronics that have had anything spilt in it ie. coke, water, cats pi$$ etc as corrosion will always eventually appear.
Thanks guys, I will just perservere and see what happens. It seems to be going OK but like Craig said, it will cark it just when you do something good![]()
If and when it goes Ill get a Navi.
I've always had good success with a fresh water wash out, then dismantling followed by a methylated spirits wash, and then dry. The Meths gets the last of the water out of the cracks and crevices.
The key thing is to get the battery out as soon as you notice it's got wet.
It looks like the water has just gotten in under the screen.
Everything else is dry including battery compartment and all other bits.
You could press the screen with your finger and it would flex and the tiny bit of water would spread then return to its original shape when pressure was relieved.
Im probably way wrong but seeing its doing nothing weird Ill hope thats all it is![]()
I've had some luck with the metho-distilled water trick as well but I'm not sure how the screen will react to this treatment.
The moment it starts to play up then give it a go as you probably have nothing to loose by then.![]()
Good luck anyway![]()
