Firstly would like to thank GPS-ss and encourage all GTC players to continue to post and support GPS-SS!!!!

Welcome to the Dutch Teams, UK, Eire and Finnish teams also!!

How to be competitive in the GTC

1.Give equal weighting to all divisions distance is just as important as speed or gibing. It is not just about speed.

2.When possible always have at least 3 windsurfers trying for one division in case of equipment failure or injury.

3.Be prepared to travel to find/discover spots/venues that suit each division. Amazing how many great NM windsurf venues were found when people searched for them.

4.Remember only your best session ave of 2 sailors in a month is required, amazing how many teams performed in last day or 2 of the month.

5.Allocate windsurfing sessions/jobs to speacialists in each division.

6.Use different days to focus on different divisions it is rare on a day that you can sail very fast close to a 2 sec PB/PR that you can also do a great hr or distance PB/PR.

7.Celebrate the Team aspect of the sport, create club type atmosphere without necessarily all of the administrative formalities of a club. Amazing what efforts & sacrifice people are willing to do for each other!!

8.Feel free to ask questions or add suggestions.

9. NB> Take only calculated risks, and remember NO PB/PR is worth a life or living in a wheel chair!!

Sorry!! Can't agree with that, my weight is only marginally more than my age, yet I usually contribute to, 1 to 3 divisions each month for my team.
Fair enough it's never for the 2sec division, but you don't have to be heavy to be a very useful team member.
In fact I have a theory that being light may even be an advantage in the alpha, 2 of the top alpha men, Andrew Daff, #2 at 27.9 and Snides #5 at 26.93, I think aren't much over 70kg.

I think you hit all the right tips there Hardie.
I think the most important thing for new [and existing] teams to remember is that this 12 month contest is an all round test – its not just about absolute speed as in 2s peaks and 5 x 10s.
To be in the mix at the end of the year teams need to compete across all 6 categories.
We at SRM are a well rounded team [we’re not all fat] where many of the members have certain strengths that we naturally play to. However, we communicate regularly and when needed, key players focus on categories where we are lacking for the month in question.
Just as a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, a strong GTC team needs to have disciplined members who are ready and willing to look beyond the 2s and 5 x 10s categories when the month requires!
I’m not trumpeting or preaching or anything like that – just stating the facts and outlining the way we do it in SRM!
Also, we have a heap of fun, we don’t use track points, we are in WA Vando [get over it or move over here], and Whitey and I are the only members who are over 95kg [plus our newest member Neil].
All the best to all teams in 2010 – let it begin!
