Quote from WotRocket sailor: "Langman said there were three other Australian and two European consortia also seeking to better the Frenchman's time."

Doesn't quite answer your question, but I just stumbled across this: it's a video of SailRocket doing 44 knots...

So far there are three threads on the Wot boat including this one discussing its compeditors. Would be good to keep all discussions in one thread.

I don't think that would qualify as an Aussie attempt.....would it?

Note that the Sailrocket vid is a year old. I think it blew up shortly after that run. Maybe they are due for another try soon?
But a real Ozzie tryer is Stephen Bourne. ( http://scienceinpublic.com/freshinnovators/2004/stephenbourn/stephenbourn.htm )
He has got some bits fabricated for a full scale machine , I believe.

Looks like a Sailrocket but control is by two joysticks and only the foil is in the water.
"Fly by wire" might let one sail it from the shore. That would suit me fine..

Some pretty mean looking foils!

It is going to hurt if these things smash into something

Hi guys,
I just got back from a week in beautiful Port Douglas where it blew 15-25 knots from the south east every day I was there
When I was coming in to land over Botany Bay what did I see??? The Wotrocket going though its paces off Kurnell Hope it blows soon to see what its potential will be.

not sure Yoyo, from what I could see it looked like it may have been being towed by another boat...? Damn pilot wouldn't slow the plane down for me so I could see closer

Anyway, when you think about it, it's still very amazing to see how much technology you need to throw in, when you see how fast a human body can go with only a board and a sail !!

And a good technic, a good balance ... and few neurones missing !

yeah its amazing the money and technology being thrown at the attempt to go 50 knots in all sorts of contraptions especially when the kites have been regularly achieving speeds in access of 50 for quite some time now.. how does that saying go?... kiss
