Check out e-go.com.au

check out the depot to depot option - cheaper and minimises handling by 'others'

I have used Transdirect but have found that they are rather expensive for boards.

I recently used ego.com.au for shipping 2x wavesails from Adelaide to Perth. They are excellent value and much cheaper. Depot to depot is the way to go. They have a depot in Osborne Park. You should enquire for a quote about the depot in Melbourne. Packing is very important and that is where you need to do and ensure it is done properly..Good luck

yep, I do all my gear transport through EGO. I have sent 5 boards and numerous sails over the last few years through EGO from NSW to WA, VIC and QLD, depot to depot, never had an issue with damage (mind you I pack my stuff well) and the gear arrived faster than estimated. The online quote is easy and accurate when you put in the honest/correct info.

Just received a board booked through Transdirect.
Great tracking service online- don't bother ringing transdirect look at what company they have sublet it to - Toll in my case.I rang Toll to see when it was arriving today and they put me in contact with the driver. Because of the condition of my potholed gravel street she wouldn't bring the truck here but I met her and got the board. Not a mark on it ( Thanks Glen for the good packing).
So once I found a way to circumvent having to ring transdirect for info I am very happy with the service - I think it was only $53 business to business Qld - Newcastle area.

Recently had an 85L board shipped from Perth to Melbourne by a shop via Star Track to the door. I think it was $80. Probably more expensive the other way around cause of the jetstreams.

re: e-go.com.au

Could the guys who used them advise on how to prepare the quote?
What kind of "package" would one select for a board?

I selected a Length/Roll 2-3m with (packaged) 15kg, 270cm long, 90cm wide, 30cm depth.
Came up with $300.

Ego's on line quoting system is based on cubic metres. Pack the item and take it into a depot for a quote, you will be surprised how much difference there is. Did an online quote for a 7.3m sail from Newcastle to Adelaide came up as $130 based on my estimate of sizes. Cost me $39.00 !!

I've found that EGO never check the measurements when you drop it at the depot. You can under measure and weigh the item, but not too much of course. For boards, I select large carton and wrap the board in old cardboard boxes. Put in the dims and weight of the actual board, not the packaged item, and you'll be sweet. Ego has never let me down.

I always use "Bulky Item" for boards

Up until last year I simply put my sails into the local post office. Cost me $17.80 to post an 8 mtre race sail to from the North Coast to Wollongong. Someone whinged, now I gotta drive 160 kay round trips to post anything off... But yeah, E-go are the go, and depot to depot the best (and safest) deal.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Tried "Bulky Items" as per AJEaster's advice. So that turned out to be the same. Shows that they mostly use the volume to figure it out. Mackay depot to Perth Depot around $300 or more.

And $300 is too much. I was hoping to be up to $200. Probably better to just show up at he depot as suggested.

The problem is that I'm not sending, but (potentially) receiving.
Not even sure how much of an effort the sender is willing to put in.

This setup will cost you about $170. Sure, the numbers are a bit fudged, but I'll bet my parents' leftover super Ego won't say anything.

I recently sold a sail and put the order through Ego online and paid it online at the time of quoting. The guy then decided he wanted my other sail too, so I rolled them both up together and sent as one (albeit, very heavy) sail. I told him if ego stung me for the extra weight then I'd send him the bill. Not a problem though.
