well since i destroyed my knee in the ledge to lano marathon i need something to keep me sane.
i've been lying on my back for the past month, in which i've had 1 of the 3 ligaments re-attached. unfortunately i found out today i have to wait another 3 months b4 i can have my ACL and PCL ligaments re attached. so by my best guess i probably wont be windsurfing next season either.

so what should i do??
i've already bought myself an xbox 360, been given 10 billion dvds, been shaped by iinet for busting my quota, been a forum whore (not here).
not being active is killing me, i need some suggestions.

During a spell of rehab where I faced lots of uncertainty about just how my recovery was going to leave me, I toyed with a number of ideas… though just how clear they were could be open to scrutiny given the analgesics used to keep life remotely normal…

One of the best for the summer months was a mobile sun screen applicator…. If you could get a hotted up 4WD stretch limo wheel chair, with optional customised suspension leg extension, you’d not only make a fortune to pay for the next seasons gear but create pulling power that will make the slippery puffed up weight pushers sulk.

I had a hard time getting that one past “She who must be Obeyed”

The other was to teach my young fella to sail. Now that was rewarding.

in my last spell off the board I started to learnt how to play the guitar. No rush but I liked it much more than x-box.

Being serious, it sucks - I've been out of action like that for a while as well; takes a while for the "wind urge" to drop off till you don't notice trees moving!

Hope you can stay sane and make a full recovery.

I noticed when I was in Safety Bay that there were land yacht racing (or something like that) held around there. Does anyone here do it? Is it fun?

Maybe that's an option if there's something like that around you?

Try find a sailboard club (longboard or whatever) get involved with keeping times organising events etc. So even even though your not sailing you can still have some input into the sport you love, look at it as time to give something back to the a sport that has given you so much fun.
You could also try get a part time/weekend job in a windsurf shop, even if the pay is crap, you're still in touch so to speak.

I did it for a couple of summers back in the early 90s down at Lake Walyungup east of Safety bay.
It was great fun and very fast. Lots of spin outs, a few capsizes etc.
They were a similar bunch to the windsurfing crowd and mostly good guys who were just there to have fun.
I used to fly down and land on the dry lake bed. A friend of mine used to then take various guys for a fly in exchange for me "minding their land yacht" for them.
The only trouble was, the steering is the reverse of an aircraft so pushing left rudder peddle turns right ???? which resulted in constant spin outs for me.

They have open days every now and then but probably you can still just rock up and be nice to them and get to try it out for free. They have a dual control one for newcomers to get the hang of but if you can sail you will pick it up in a few minutes.

And the best part for Bertie, you do it lying on your back , so you've alredy got that part right.

All ripping good fun!

I came in not long after you Bertie and you were looking pretty beaten up. I could see the pain in your eyes. All the best on your recovery.
Play the stock market, you might be able to earn enough cash for some brand new kit when you get back on the water!

unlucky bertie, i just had an accident as you know, the torn pec, but that wil be healed in another week, and i reckon il be able to go kitesurfing starting now (groan-ish) and windsurfing in about a week.

I think who-ever mentioned the stock-market is on to a very good idea. This could be the best time of your life where you become a stock-market whizz, just play around with a few grand and learn some things then when you start earnin even more big bucks, being an engineer and all, you'll find gettin rich is easy.

Hobble over to one of those free seminar things they always do in hotels, but dont get suckered in to any Timeshare stuff....be wary.
