G'day all. I'm building another wide tail end with busla and carbon for my 220-250 boom . I've got some idea's on improving the finish. I hope it turns out as good as id does in my head
So far, bulsa has been rough shaped and the carbon tail ends glued. Nex step tomorrow night will be wrapping it in carbon after a final shape and sand.
Looking good Bender - thanks for sharing DYI stuff. Is that just an epoxy mix for the glue or have you used something quicker set? Did you choose balsa in lieu of ply due to weight also.
make sure you put inserts into the balsa before you lay any carbon down, for the bolt holes. make a drill jig so you can find them later though. U dont want bolts going into balsa as you would know bender but for best results do the inserts earlier.
I'd recomend some tufnol rod or some G10. Just not wood!! be very careful with plastic, no metal! I'd avoid milled fibre and resin TBH.

Thanks mate, I will be using a footstrap insert. I've had no issued using them so far on the other two have made
Progress tonight got the balsa shaped screw inset glued in. Then i wetted out the 50mm wide unidirectional tape and wrapped the tail. Then just taped it up with insulation tape
When I'm doing the duct tape wrap I use a pin afterwards and prick it all over to get excess resin to bleed out. More pricks near the resin buildups from the tape overlaps. Can also squeeze the job to get more out if required too! I also wrap the tape sticky side out so it has a release finish and so sticky crap in the finished part.
