This is my old Bic long board that I got from council collection day a couple of years ago. It's a hoot in light winds. Does anyone know the model name and the vintage of it? thanks

Sailed one in 1976 was a good learner rig, was very similar to the dufour board, did BIC bought Dufour? And very cheap to buy!

Dufour was a Bic brand from the beginning(1980), that board is very similar to the dufour "wing"

Yep- it looks like a Bic 250.
The Dufour Wing had red trim around the seams and didnt have a handle on the front.
When Bic renamed the brand as Bic Sport they produced the Bic Wing, and a bit later the Bic Swing.
The 250 was firmly a beginnners board, it was really heavy but indestructible.
Happy days...

the early BICs were many people's first board
i still use a Dufour for newbies
others suggest I use a wider newer board, butt the BIC does it well
combined with a Mistral WindGlider - people get going in 10 kph winds in no time :-)
without too many falls !!!!

that's me on the original equipment in my avatar :-)

That's me in the original gear in my avatar too, but I ditched the old sail after a few scary sessions in gusty conditions. Spoke to the owner and he said he hardly ever used it, was bought by his parents to learn on but seemed it stayed wrapped up under the house most of the time so was in good condition. Even still had the little dongle thingo to attach the boom to the mast (which I lost about the second time I went out). The sail and old mast went to someone making a small wooden dinghy. It is a bugger to sail off the wind though, wallows around, someone suggested lifting the centreboard out and carrying over my shoulder...

Exact same gear for me starting out Joe. I had the Wing with the big centreboard, same sail too.
On your blog you say that the Dufour had red trim and the Bic Black. Mine was definately a Dufour and had red trim!
