It depends on what the surf is like at the time, for mine Currumbin is pretty good.
You can spend time on the shoulder of the wave until you get your confidence and skills up and then venture closer to the peak. It's a point so peels nicely down the line and is fairly predictable, far more so than any beach break.
I am in Brisbane also but try to venture down that way when there is wind, as it's where I grew up.
