Just to follow-up on another post I started, had the best compliment, and worst insult today...

After receiving the compliment....and pretty pumped about it, kissed the wife and kids goodbye as they hopped back in the car from the beach, told them I'd be home in an hour or so, (just had to have "one more run"), as anyone that knows me understands..."one more cast", "one more minute" (when on seabreeze).

Anyway was about to walk back out into the surf when an old guy (fisherman), wandered up to me and asked, "Hey mate, looks like you're having fun out there, but why do you wear the GIRDLE?!?" (harness, obviously), and followed it up with, "and shouldn't it be around your gut, not up around your armpits?!?"

My last run wasn't as enjoyable as it should've been.....totally deflated!

Why deflated by in individual who is ignorant?

Fact is when suited up in your windsurfing kit you look ridiculous. If you wanted to look cool and collected best to stick to driving with your 5.0 with the ragtop down so ya hairr can roll.

Police on the scene, ya know what I mean?

They passed me up confronted by a dope fiend.

If theres a problem yeah I solve it.

word to your mother....

don't worry just a stupid fisho. Just like all the standard questions like:

is it cold? (middle of winter on the bay - of course its f*ckin cold!)
aren't you scared of sharks? (well no cause you guys had fished them all out...)

he wouldn't be too happy if you were a kiter and slammed the kite on his head, he should be lucky.

I've got no ill feel toward the 'old-guy', he seemed genuine. As I looked down, I realised that I hadn't 'shuffled' my harness down, and it was around my chest.

latedropeddy - not scared of sharks when on a 165lt board.....you can fall and not get wet!

Mobydisk - I look ridiculous at the best of times.....(I don't know which song you're quoting from............really!!.........do-do-do-dododo-do)

One day I was at Crazy Waves on the most insane day ever... maxed out on 4.0 for ages (anyone who has seen me will know it is bl00dy windy when I'm on 4.0 ). Half mast coming both directions in classic Crazy Waves style.... double mast plus jumps were the order of the day. Faaark yeah

Wearing a steamer in all black, with my black Gath helmet on. Started to rain hard so I put my tinted (black!) visor down. Came in for a break and some old geezer on the beach:

"You look like a spaceman. You young people... mutter mutter..." as he walked away.

he thought I was out there just trying to look cool / good / whatever..... felt like grabbing him by the throat and saying "mate this sh6T can seriously injure you if it goes wrong......it is not lawn bowls"

so so deflated hahaha

Boardies rashie and a waist harness don't look stupid, it's when your wareing the gath helmet (including Visor) seat harness, life jacket gloves and booties, all over a steamer in mid summer is when you look stupid. or same helmet seat harness and budgee smugglers...
You may laugh but i've seen both more than once, but more often than not holding a bar attached to a kite..

It's about 2-3weeks away from boardies/rashie season here(can't wait), could possibly be in them now (I'd have to HTFU, though!)

I must admit though, I did have the wetty, harness & gath(no visor) on, (sailing by myself and not familiar with waves......my excuse!)
