Hi guys,

Anyone windsurfed in Maldives before? What are the conditions like, the wind, the water etc? Googled it but there wasn't much information.

I have been offered a job there so wondering if I should bring my gear with me if I do accept the position.

Hi fionzc,

I was in the Maldives about 10 years ago, it is a great place to take your kit. Although it depends on the time of year, doldrums (for about 3 mounths), rest of the year consistant trade winds all day every day!.

Make sure you take plenty of spares, it costs a alot to get stuff sent there

hey SJM, where exactly did you windsurf at? at Male or at one of the resort islands? and what size sail & board did you use?

I read that it's an up & coming surfing location too. And I guess there's always diving when there's no wind.

hey mate was in the Maldives for my honeymoon in Feb. The resort had some relatively decent gear so had some fun for an hour or two, but I don't think you get too much wind there. Maybe storm winds? But it was a nice 10/12 knots in the arvo, light in the am.

Someone showed me this video just last night...a little hard to believe that Maldives has such conditions when all I see in photos are flat water & really (really!) old looking sails. Think I might just bring my gear along...it's better than leaving it in Singapore collecting dust coz I have no idea how long I'll be away.
