Maybe we should ask Lee Kwan Yue to run Australia for a few years and fix the joint up.

With more and more people like myself living in units in Sydney, there is a huge opportunity for someone or some organisation to offer similar facilities in Sydney. Its difficult having windsurfing gear when living in a unit. The NSW government won't do anything coz it would actually be helpful to the community and wouldn't involve poker machines, papal visits or football fields.

The only problem is some idiot would vandalise the joint on a Friday night here.

Yeah the gear you see are all privately owned. They do lock up some of the gates at 6pm everyday, not that it really helps because people can always climb over the fence or go through the pub entrance if they want to.

Heard of miscellanous items going missing, maybe a boom or mast but that's about it. I guess only a windsurfer would steal the equipment, but it would be stupid because the community is so small here, you can easily be spotted using someone else's gear if you do so.

John with the formula board is talking about coming down for the Australian champs after Christmas and I said we'd have to organize for some of our guys to go up there if they have an event.

Flat water, and you will get anything from zero to thirty knots, for anything from one minute to 3 hours, any day of the year. Guaranteed!!

Best chance for getting 10-15-20 knots most days of the week is during the NE monsoon, around Jan-March. But that's NOT guaranteed!

Hence the need for big sails (12.5 for Crazy Johnny) and small sails (4.5 for Mad Josh), and boards to match...do NOT plan a windsurfing trip here, but please do drop in for a visit on your way to Vietnam or Thailand, and try your luck.

Thirty Knots??? is that at the end of Changi Airport runway when the planes take off

yeah sometimes we sit by the beach sleeping/reading/talking/eating all weekend without a sail. Other times you get a nice warm aching feel all over on monday, or even a sniffle as a result of a raging storm over the weekend. But windsurfing here is pretty much a waiting game....even the charts are not very reliable.

And the ironic thing is, there is usually no wind when there is a race.

Hi Willy, Jethrow etc, do you know a sailor over there called Ken? He has a wife Katie, who went to school with my wife - they come back to Hobart every now and then, Ken has a board and rig here for when he comes down, but I haven't met him yet as I've been away working in the bush when he has been here. If you know him, tell him I'm looking forward to a sail with him when we finally meet.

Yeah, I know Ken, and I've met his wife, but I seldom see them these days. Last time we spoke he was talking about buying land on Bruny island and sailing there. Mad.

Small world - but then again, windsurfing is the reason this world exists in the first place, so these little coincidences can be expected....
