Hi Guys,
I do some windskate since 1986. I did many different windskate and like windsurfing, it's all good but 1 cm on the shape of the board change everything!
The windskate board you see on the video clip is my last one and best one. At first, I was thinking it was to stable and slow but it's the opposite, you could do so many tricks with a lot less risk then what I was using in 1986 at the beginning of windskate.ca.
The wind I like to practice is between 10-20 knots. 10 knots or less for beginners, 15 for a lot of fun ( the brake start to bee nice to use ) and 20 for radical and cool condition.
With this kind of wind, you could not have so much action with a windsurfing board but with a windskate, it's full action. I realy like to sail with 15-20 knots and grind my wheels sliding on concreate.
One thing is true, it's easier and simple then windsurfing, 2 you get confident fast (3 days), 3 you could increase your level faster (Ricardo Campello did learn a lot with a windskate), 4 it's fun an addictive as windsurfing.
People think windskate is killer, it could be but if you start with the brake as first move to learn, then you wont go to fast and be ok. Then, it's all in your head! Don't try to be Robby Nais the first day!
With time and practice, you could be more fluid and a better rider!
Have fun!
You could check a clip I made called Tips For Windsurfers with a windskate initiation to learn.... The BRAKES ( so important to use that, even will windsurfing ex.: your doing a jibe that will die, put the brake and you will finish it! ) Ho yeah!
windskate.ca windskate section could give you more details for windskaters!
