Non-windsurfing men should NOT...repeat NOT...pursue windsurfing women, unless they are prepared to immediately throw themselves into the sport. Otherwise such men will be surrounded by angry windsurfing men who all seek the great and rare prize: the girlfriend or wife who windsurfs. To squander such a find on a landlubber is an offense to those of us who sheet in!

(There is the opinion held by a small minority that it is a drag to be a man whose significant other windsurfs...you probably have to rig for them, they use your equipment etc. but generally speaking the willingness of such wahines to make every vacation a windsurfing vacation, to understand why the garage needs to be packed with tons of expensive wet gear etc. outweighs the rigging/sharing concerns. Discussion of such matters is encouraged.)

(Since running this feature last year, the Romance department at Peconic Puffin HQ has received a number of additional reasons to consider :

11. Ladies, if your man isn't home during the day, you'll know where to find him.

12. He'll be on the water so often won't have time for anybody else besides you.

How do i convert mine..? He tried 20 years ago but after falling off & battling with some killer weed wrapped around his feet & holding him under the water has been shy ever since..

It's all acceptance and interest at first. But it's never long before the anti-windsurfing legislation is enacted...

I reckon in Vic the ratio is more like 30 to 1 from what i can tell (someone futher up suggested it was more like 10 to 1 instead of the 4 to 1 in the origional post).

Any help from 'angry windsurfing men' to scare off current non-windsurfing man first would be greatly appreciated!

Meanwhile, I've started working on my ad:

WANTED - Windsurfing Man

Must understand:

-> Statements such as 'too many boards' or 'too windy' are just plain offensive.
-> The shed (or other appropriate storage space for sporting equipment) is the most important feature of a house (aside from proximity to windsurfing spots).
-> All holidays can and preferably should involve windsurfing. Holiday suggestions such as WA road trips, Cocos, Gnaraloo, Prasonisi and Maui should inspire jumping up and down with excitement. Not tantrums, whinging and tears.
-> Being salty, sandy and exhausted is a good thing.
-> Lawns can be mown and clothes washed any old time. A pumping 25 knot NEer might come but 20 days a year.
-> Work exists only to enable us to do the things we love.

Good van preferred but not essential.

Love it !
Might I add

- remedial massage is happily given after a sail without complaints of the pain being self inflicted
- birthday gifts etc of new boards + sails
- new larger car supplied
- must be happy to let me off at an upwind point and then fill in time & come & pick me up at the downwind end of the lake..
- cycling , kayaking , bushwalking etc can be done at any time of the year so sailboarding comes 1st..

Haha... but "doesn't smell too bad"??? My wetsuit and boots smells horrible, and so do i after a good session... Luckily i have a windsurfing gf, who understands my need for more gear, and makes me sandwiches when we go surfing

But trust me the rigging thing is horrible, you know how women are getting out the door, it takes ages. Just imagine how long it takes for them to rig and put on a wetsuit, and when they're finally ready the wind is gone and they're like "well i like 15 knots better than 25knots anyway". But still, she makes sandwiches and lets me buy new gear

Is that why I always seem to take longer to rig & put away gear than everyone else? Phew its not a personal failing then..
