Program was made by the Warren Miller company over the summer and just shown on the Weather Channel cable network here in the USA. Summer is classic here with wind most days somewhere on the river. Come winter and the coast works, had 125 mph winds and 80 foot waves last weekend. Could only manage 44 knot runs on the speed course as it was too windy! This part of the world is a nice place to call home.

one of my biggest regrets of a round the world trip is going to the Gorge and Hood River, way back in 1991 and NOT sailing. I still can't believe I didn't hire some gear

I went to seppo land in the August 1994. I went with my mum and we stayed with friends in Seattle.

We went down to the Gorge for a few days. My mum, a family friend who was an Aussie living in America and myself. A great drive through the eastern parts of Washington State and Idaho. It was great laughing at the yanks and their silly ways.

We stayed at the Dalles, at a guest house run by a windsurfing guy who we were sure was gay. He was a nice bloke all the same. I hired a board, a real short thing by those days and with two fins but quite floaty. Also got two sails, a 5.0 and a 4 I think.

It was great sailing. Strong winds on the three days I sailed. I tried a few places. People there were very friendly and they really liked talking about Australia though some of them had strange ideas about us. Some of the launch zones were dodgy with heaps of rocks and crap around. However the wind and water was warm.

Great sailing in fresh water. No need to worry about Noahs or having to wash your gear after a sail.

I'd love to go back there one day.
