In order not to hi-jack the demo day threads for SA I have created a new topic

G'day to the South Aussie contingent,

I'll be heading down south over the Christmas break and am super keen to get some sailing in and meet a few of the local South Oz crew

Will be looking to get some wave sailing in around Goolwa/Victor Harbour/Pt Elliot along with a planned trip or two down to Waitpinga and Kangeroo Island if the conditions are right.
I have had my eye on the reef break off Pt Elliot (refer earlier post) for a few years and would like to give it a crack if Huey serves up the right combination of conditions with ample energy levels to make it worthwhile.
As it will be a holiday trip, anyone suspecting a sales pitch can relax... I'm planning on surfing, sailing, downing a Coopers or 7 and sharing some of the local stoke when the conditions are on.

For those considering venturing into the ocean for the first time I am more than happy to be involved in a group sail if one of the South Oz locals wants to take the lead
It could present a great opportunity to meet some of your fellow sailors along with the chance to swap tips and suggestions for those who are a little hesitant about hitting the ocean for the first time.

Regards

Kev

Hey Kev,

There's plenty of sailors in SA who'd hit the waves with ya, just a matter of finding them!
Try The Funnel (Sellicks Beach) in the arvo's if there's a seabreeze and any swell, can be fun side off down the line sailing. Usually only small surf if any though.
You should be able to catch up with some of the SA crew there and line up a trip to the Far.
I've got another 8 weeks out of the water, otherwise I'd head down with you.

Come and join the boggy crew for a session if you feel like some flat water fun on your trip.

Here's a better description of a break off Pt Elliot that I am interested in trying to sail.
I have inserted SW wind arrow and a marker for the spot itself.
If my memory serves me correctly Bashams Beach (aka the Chicken run is further south east of here in Middleton ?

I have seen some half decent waves breaking off here and am guessing it would be cross off in a sou wester ?
I have it on good authority that guys surf it in Winter when the swell is pumping ?

Hey TT, thanks for the Boggy Lake invite but I'll only be traveling with wave gear (it's all I own any how)

Anyone sail Waitpinga in Summer ?
Last time I surfed it, it was cross off shore and pretty windy (around 4 foot with a strong morning nor easter - from memory - before the seabreeze kicked) ... would love to give it a crack wave sailing
Can anybody shed any light ?

Kev
