I have an older comp board as pictured - SR250L.
Made by Sailboard Equipment Brisbane. Stephen McGearey, Epoxy / Carbon.
seems quite light for it`s size.

I have not yet sailed it but am keen to have a go. I am 70kg.
Can anyone suggest what the sail range might be for these?
I have a range of sails from 5.0 up 9.0 that i could rig on it.
I would sail it nearby at Jervis Bay.

Thanx

9 would be sweet on that, could have bought one myself last year, but bought a f2 lightning instead.

BUT, be careful, if your a competent sailor sailing them powered up loads the fins and fin box to the max.
Next fin I break I think I'll convert the lightning to tuttle box.

Re range (5 -12)

Are you a competent sailor ?
Do you have a short board ?

I sail my lightning with a 7.4 (wish i had something bigger for lighter winds)
When I'm plaining consistently on that I now I can get plaining on my short board so I've never used a smaller sail.

I used to have one of those, great boards. Only sailed it with a 7.5m back then.

hi, i have used my formula sails on my old Mistral but figure a 7.5 raceboard sail feels nicer.
at one stage i had NP V8's in 8.5 and 9.5 and that style of sail works well, however, that was on a PanAm with a tuttle box.
my current board has a finbox like yours so i will stick with the 7.5.

I've found an 8.8m with a Mistral goes nicely, the 7.8m is a little hard to get the board to rail. The old raceboard sails have wayyyy more bottom end, I tried an old 1996? 6.4? and it had more low end than my 2009 7.8m. The slalom/race sails of today are focussed on top end. A couple of brands do dedicated raceboard sails e.g. Tushingham, Severne, that have more bottom end and you can adjust the downhaul on the fly. A big tushy lightning is a good cheap option if you can find one.

Perhaps being a basic sailor, (only 18mths experience) I could begin with a NP 7.2 RS-1 to see how it goes in lighter conditions.

There are three extra fins as well as the 34cm in it... i presume the 34cm will be easiest?

If ya dont like the board, I will gladly buy it from you. I would stick around the 6-9mt range. use the longest fin you have to fit, but the 34 should be fine to use.

Everyone seems to be out on modern boards these days, wouldn`t have thought there would be much demand for these big boards.
Surely there would be some of these boards stowed away in qld not being used?

I had one of the HT 13 fins in a similar raceboard and found it too small to give much drive. I use a 34cm fin with a fair bit more area. I'd try the red one first. I agree with Pirrad, don't go too long on the fin- I think around 34 cm is a happy maximum size for a US box.

I use 6.0 to 7.5 on my similar race board and I'm around 80kg.
