My new camera arrived today so I had to rush out to test, or at least my gf did as I was out sailing. Didn't have a tripod so some a bit shaky.

Turned out to be a good session at Kyeemah this afternoon with a solid 20knt NE'r for a couple of hours. Managed to get my 7.8m sail over 30kts for the first time.

Some pics below and a few more in the pics section.
Proof that Harrow does gybe and Jamie does some land sailing!!

A tripod in the wind makes a huge difference.

The blue Loft O2 in the second bottom picture, does that have a reflective panel? Looks like a reflection of the sailor's forehead on the sail?
And that shot of the orange Loft and JP board is a great example of mast bend and sail flex.

You've got an eagle-eye easty! The '06 Loft sails have a distinctive reflective panel that is sometimes responsible for blinding other sailors and land observers.

Thanks for the great posting Des!

Harrow, wasn't that just an impression of your face in the sail from last 'face plant',...or should I say gybe.

Camera is the the new Pana Lumix Fixed lens Digital, 10.1 mpix. I bought it because it has an amazing 18X zoom. It's Leica lens is a 27-450mm which is great for the size of the camera. The runway in the background is about 1.2 k away and container terminal 2ks. I figure if i get a 2X converter it should make for even better WS shots. The video quality is pretty good. Need to read the manual today to work out how to use all the features.

You'd be flexing as well if you had that weight hanging off you.

Yeah I like that shot it really shows the dynamics of the rig in action.

Sigh. As an ex-pat Sydneysider who's a BB fan (for flatwater), these pics make me sick...

Ahhhh well.

*Click* another piece of the seabreeze puzzle goes into place. So you're Waiting4Wind. We had a chat on sunday about my broken boom.

So do you get down to Kyeemagh every afternoon? I've been there three times after work, and you've been there each day. And you were out again yesterday!

Nice pick with the A380 in the background!

Really dwarfs the Qantas plane considering its infront of it!

Yep that's me Shear Tip. Kyeemah is my second home, I'm there every day there's wind, my 'special employment conditions' allow this. Maybe we need some stickers on the sails to identify each other.

Davmen, good spot, didn't even notice that it was the new big beast.

Great pictures. Hopefully this summer's winds will not fail like they did last summer. Have you been able to sort out the cable issue with your GPS? It would be great to start seeing some times.

I really like the mid gybe pictures.

Haven't tracked down a cable yet but working on it......it's very annoying, can't believe how much stuff I cant find after moving house.

The Harrow Gybes were near the shore line so better definition. I think we may call him GybeMaster from now on as it all looks very professional.

My camera operator will be at the scene with me in the next few sessions so if you want to get in on the action then Kyeemagh is the place. Maybe I can even track down the tripod.

Yeah its hard work moving house. I've done it three times in the last four years. However this time we are staying put.

If a north easter is on this weekend we might make a day of it. My wife wants to go to the Hunter Valley this weekend to buy some grog. If that happens I'll probably be able to wrangle a sail at Lake Maquarie somewhere.

In anycase hopefully we get decent winds. According to the synoptic maps a high pressure will move out over the Tasman Sea which is a good sign.

I've got the Pana FZ30, the Pana's are great camera's for the money
I lock my ISO to 80 (less noise) and when taking photos of windsurfers or kites set my shutter to 400 to freeze the action.

You've got a talented Girlfriend

I should know that, I used take that flight to Singapore every couple of weeks. The worst thing was leaving on a windy day and watching everyone having a blast in the bay.

Hi Firebob, are you familiar with the 1.7X lens converter option. I was wondering if this would be a worthwhile option for the long shots?

I better not make any comment about the gf. She is currently learning to windsurf and has an account on this forum. Given it was the first time she picked up the camera, it was a good result. Got to buy her a tripod for the next session, I just hope she appreciates all the effort I'm going to.

Thats always a hard pill to swallow, especially when you know your not going to be sailing for the next week or two.
-thats why I prefer the 8am flight -

Sorry I'm not familiar with the 1.7x but the standard lens is great quality so a good converter couldn't hurt, a guy at my work has a converter on a Canon and swears by it

Have a look at this great forum www.dpreview.com/forums/1033 some of the guys here take very good photos with converters. I used to post photos there and ask questions, like here there are some helpful people
