I've been feeling a bit left out lately with my board only having three fins so I decided to get myself one of these flashy 4 finned thingies....Quads I think they are called. The trouble was I didn't really need a new wave board as i already have a van full of boards suitable for this so I opted to get a light wind wave machine instead. I needed float to carry my muscular 95kg body out through the shore break to catch some nice glassy waves off Gerroa. I looked through the catalogues and web pages of the usual suspects to pick out my new board, no luck..100L was as big as I was going to get and I wanted something in the 110-120L range.

I decided to go custom and came across OES Australia/Maui, claiming to make wave boards up to 120L that actually perform like proper wave boards. A few emails back and forth between Pete from OES and myself and I was sold on the idea of my own custom board.

I've left everything up to Pete as far as dimensions and shape, I've got no idea what works and what doesn't? I just ride them...any ways it's starting to take shape now and should be ready soon, I can't wait!

Here's a few pics of it so far...

My original concept....

The board in mid lamination....

The next few steps are super secret and can't be shown here but after the carbon cap and filler coat I'll have some more pics to post.

I'm a very excited boy at the moment...It's just like Xmas

I hope it doesn't turn out like the concept, might be a bit hard to ride with that front strap configuration.

lol that's funny now it's been pointed out.... I never even noticed when you sent me the design or when I looked at these pictures .... I wonder if anyone doing a home build has made similar funny mistakes ?

Maybe it's not a wave board but a freestyle board... with the strap setup like that maybe you can switch stance in your natural stance

Seriously though, keep the pictures coming... boards looks schweet

I am impressed with the twin screw footstrap inserts alone. No twisted straps, woo hoo!

If I was building it, it would have a bazillion footstrap inserts all over the place and weigh a tonne.

jh,
are you single because if you're getting that board soon, your family won't be seeing you much especially since you have moved to gerroa!

I was a bit keen to see the boards with It's pads and foot straps on so I've photo shopped them in to see what the final boards going to look like. I'm very happy how it's turned out and can't wait to get it wet

Thanks to Pete at OES for doing a top job, Thanks again for putting up with my pestering emails and all the photo's you've sent.

I will post a review when I get my hands on it

Just an idea, but I just got a hold of a pair of 16 cm k4 twin fins for my oes 78 twin fin. Nothing wrong with the oes fins but the k4 certainly live up to the performance claims on their site. Given the pricing, definitely recommend trying a set.
