I'm looking for a Mistral One Design or similar longboard.
Does anyone have one they're willing to sell or know somebody that has one?
Does anyone know if there used a Mistral/longboard racing scene here in Perth? I'm trying to get some contacts to find where all these boards have disappeared to.
Thanks,
Mike 0405528842
There was a mistral crew ( including myself) racing reguarly back around early 90's not sure where all the boards ended up?
They started out white then blue ish then pink from memory...
I think Craig Or Aus1111 may still have a board each...
Try Man over Board - he has my old Mistral One Design.
BSN101 and I both have IMCOs - looking at racing again at Busselton Yacht club.
Id like to reissue the call if anyone has Mistral & F2 raceboards please let me know too as Id like to get some here in Busselton in time for next summer. I might even be able to offer BYO rig and have a go.
If Duff12 get a board then there will be min3 on the water!
Cheers
Dave
Thanks. I'm new to seabreeze. How do I contact those members you mentioned?

Sold long ago! Basically replaced it with two children and I now only sail when it's windy
They're a good thing though. I'd be interested to know what speeds could be reached with a GPS on.
^^^^ i have a Garmin 310xt,
max speed for me on the Mistral One Design is 29 knots with an 8.5
max on the Phantom 377, 26 knots.
What metric would that be counting by fjdoug? ( ie: best five 10 sec or single reading for two secs or whatever. ..)
Ive been up to 24knts on Bic Bamba RB with NP 7.5 Ryde sail (no cams), 22knts 5x10, 18knts NM.
Id say that when i get the Mistrals out they will be faster again.
Carve gybing a 12 foot board is freaky good fun!!

hey Salty,
that's simply looking at the outright max speeds using Garmin connect, weeding out the odd spike that doesn't look right with the tracks overlayed on Earth, i would be interested to know how that compares to what you guys use.
I've got 24 knots on my IMCO in open ocean conditions a few times. I rarely sail flat "speed friendly" courses.
29 knots is pretty out there.
I used max outright speeds from garmin connect too.
It would be a good challenge to see if someone can reach 30 knots on an IMCO.
Clarence
hi Clarence,
i sail mostly on an inland lake however have also used the Garmin in open water at the coast.
i go faster here on our lake.
it's generally very gusty which will give good max speeds as the water stays flat.
at the coast my best speeds on the Phantom are similar to yours and Dave's.
it would be nice to do a Nautical Mile; try that here and there's a good chance you'll take out a cyclist.

Thanks Doug, I had asked because it's a bit hard to know if quoted speeds are realistic, often I feel that a two second speed touched once gets claimed. I'm not sure I really agree with that, best 5 ten second runs being far more reliable. Regardless, 26 knots top on your 377 is perhaps more modest than I had thought and sounds entirely plausible.
Here's a little thread on the Speedsailing forum where Decrepit helped me out and confirmed that my results were looking good after a few modifications to my method.

I'm using my phone as my gps. It goes on my mast just above the boom now because I don't like wearing it on my arm. When back home I load it into GPSactionreplay and pull out any spikes. (normally none or very few) I bring up the table of results and list them fastest to slowest then zoom right in and look to see what seems reasonable or not and delete them accordingly. I really like the program, it's easy to isolate a section and analyze it. It gives polar plots, vmg upwind and down and a host of other stuff... Trial period available on the software. gpsactionreplay.free.fr/
I'm on the Lechner so my overall speeds are not so impressive, however my 2 sec, 10 sec, 500 meter, whatever are usually very close to one another. In a decent breeze 17-18knots downwind briefly peaking very occasionally just on 20. 10 knots upwind at about 100 degrees between tacks, or a bit slower and a bit higher if I choose. All this in up to 20knots or so, I'm still sorting out my 20+ gear. I've got a little quiet aim to see if I can push that 17-18 up to 20. Not sure if there's any real connection between these top speeds and time around a course though.
It's certainly no substitute for going boat on boat but in lieu of any other D2 guys locally I'm making do.
I'd be interested in seeing some raceboard .gpx files if you feel like sharing one day. Maybe in a separate thread, or by PM if your prefer. (or not at all is fine too!) Or even, dare I suggest, you strap your gps on and take your Lechner for a spin!
Cheers, Mikey

I have only sailed the Lechner once with the GPS, a couple of weeks ago.
I got a bit over 18 kts, BOM say max wind that day was 20 Kts.

Awesome!
Sounds about right. It gets to that speed pretty easily but doesn't seem very keen to go much quicker.
Righto the challenge is out...
RB 2sec 5x10 NM and Alpha too. Im gonna throw away my JP and only RB!!! GPSTC RB only category.
Whos with me?????
Silence???
I hope i get my OD & Equipe back soon cos Ill need them.
Looks like its only you and me Mike (when you get the board)
Possibly few people will have seen the post. How about when you get your first few results start a new thread with an appropriate title. You are sure to get others joining in. If you broaden it to 'longboards' I'll play for sure. I'd also be interested if some Wally guys chimed in with verifiable speeds too!
Anyone interested in joining a GPSTC RB team. Maybe just to post all times to the same team so they are all in the same place.
Anyone want to put a name fwd?
