IMHO If space is an issue, racks particularly when they're made of wood pvc etc is a waste of valuable space.

This is my ex Telstra SWB HiAce, on the right I can fit three boards on their sides and one, up to Formula size underneath.
When we go camping i take the centre boom rack out (4screws) chuck a dble mattress in and can still fit 3board, 3sails etc under.
To save space simply pop rivet 20-25mm RHS to inside of van to support flooring.

Aww come on, that's the soft option I plug welded angle iron to mine for the shelving/bed, but it was a Mazda, so it probably stiffened up the chassis, which made up for the rusting roof.

I fitted out my high ace as per photo. Box tube with track so cross bars can be adjusted to suit. Also racks are two piece onepiece slides inside the other so I can move right side up and downas the gap narrows up the side.
Material costs were about $400 plus powder coating.
Works well and I can take racks out easily when I need to put bike in.
Can fit all the gear for two people on road trips.

Normally loaded as per photo for Slalom events, I am to old for sleeping in vans, like a bit more comfort these days.
Racked out so 2 people can load all their slalom gear on road trips.

I racked out my Peugeot Boxer LWB van with lengths of 2" x 2" and all the wood including the MDF for the shelves and Waterproof Ply for the bed base cost around 200 euros so pretty cheap as well

In there i manage to fit :-

Starboard Phantom 380 Race, Starboard Isonic 144, Starboard Isonic 111, Starboard Isonic 86, Starboard Isonic Speed Special W53, Starboard Isonic Speed Special W49, Starboard Isonic Speed Special W44

KA Koncept's (4.4, 5.0, 5.7, 6.4, 7.3, 8.3, 9.5) , 9.5 Tushingham XR Race, 10.5 Demon Design VG5, KA Kult (5.8, 6.4), KA Kaos (4.2, 4.7, 5.3)

Masts (370, 400, 400, 430, 430, 460, 460, 460, 490, 520, 580)

Booms (2 x Chinook Carbon Course, 2 x Chinook Carbon Slalom, 1 x Chinook Carbon Big Wave and 1 x Neil Pryde X9)

and all my fins, extensions, deck plates and spare parts. As part of the build i wanted a comfortable bed for when i am away at events and need to sleep in the van so i sacrificed a couple racks for my 2 wave boards and SUP but can put these in loose on the bed base when heading to the beach if i'm not sleeping in the van. The racking in pictures 4 & 5 are of the racking when i first fitted it to the van and after using it like this for 6 months i changed it to the racking system i have now in pics 1,2,3 as i now have more space unlike in the original setup

Got the tool clips off eBay for the mast extensions. Get the plastic coated ones so they don't rust or damage any extension and the sizes i got were 32mm for the RDM extensions and 50mm for the SDM extensions
